Summary: Actually..3 1/2 stars.......
Review: Let me just begin by saying that I enjoyed this book very much...my rating of three and a half stars is not to say that in comparison to every other book that Ive read that "The Fiery Cross" was little more than mediocre...but I rated it 3 1/2 stars compared to the previous books in the Outlander series...This story was much slower in pace....there are a ton of loose strings that have me eagerly awaiting the next installment......I could read about Jamie Fraser forever....Definitely a must read for any Outlander fan...just be sure to read these books in order!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Hated to finish it!
Review: After reading some of the other reviews, I was afraid this fifth book might be disappointing. However, I was not in the least disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between the characters and the "peaceful" times.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Gabaldon should not be abridged ...
Review: Gabaldon's writing is so descriptive it is really a waste to hear it cut down. Take the time to either read it or listen to the unabridged book.

Summary: This is an epic, not an MTV video!
Review: The Fiery Cross was great. As the fifth book in the series, some two million words later, I think the author has done an amazing job developing characters who are scared, conflicted, irritating, and yes, sometimes a little boring. What's all the whining about? There are such rich subplots in this story, fantastic detail, historical accuracy, and humor. If you want "action", go somewhere else! This is a book for people who can understand the fallow, developing periods in the evolution of a character. You know, kind of like the way people REALLY mature. In real life.

The Fiery Cross is, in my opinion, a worthy successor to the Outlander series, and I can hardly wait for number six. I hope it is every bit as detailed and LONG as this one. After all, how many fifty-year olds in Colonial America were 1) having sex four times a day; 2) killing dozens of men singlehandedly, several times; and 3) plotting to overthrow the head of the House of Stuart? THAT was pretty farfetched if you ask me!!

Summary: Enjoyed the details others found too slow
Review: This was my first Gabaldon novel. Contrary to what other reviewers have written, I found the medical details very interesting. It is refreshing to read about medical history and herbal treatments/holistic treatments of the times in the context of fiction.

Summary: Don't waste your time
Review: Arrrrrrrrrgh. That's all I have to say about this latest installment of Ms. Gabaldon. I have read the previous novels and thoroughly enjoyed them...in fact, I've read them each twice, but this one; I just couldn't make it. So boring and seemed to go nowhere for the longests time. I was so disappointed, I resold the book. I do hope if she writes additional installments to the Jaimie/Clair adventures, that she returns to the format of the previous ones...this was awful.

Summary: Booooorrrrriiinnnnggg!
Review: I picked this up in a bookstore overseas for a train trip. It would have been nice if the publishers had mentioned that it was the Nth book in a series... I'd have at least hunted for the first one instead of coming in at what is apparently the tail end.

Having read this one, I have no desire to read any more in the series, except perhaps as an antidote for insomnia. Lots and lots and lots of writing, no story. But I did get something out of it. Thanks to this book I now have a really... I mean REALLY... I mean >thouroughly-drummed-in< concept of the physiolgical details of what the human female experieces during lactation. Yow!

Summary: Thank you Diana!
Review: I am an avid reader of all types of literature and no other author I've read can compare to the eloquence, detail and 'believability' of the Outlander series.

I read Voyager first, not realizing it was a series, a couple of years ago. Within weeks, I had finished all four, spending entire weekends unable to tear myself from the pages. I even took the bus, just so I could read on the way to & from work!! Shortly after finishing #4, I started over and have read the entire series so many times since that I find the Frasers and MacKenzies entering my thoughts almost daily. I've also spent time at the bookstore, library and on-line researching that period, Culloden, and the Fraser & MacKenzie clans. It also inspired me to learn more about my Scottish roots. (Of course, I had to see if I was related to the Frasers or MacKenzies! I am...to the MacKenzies).

When The Fiery Cross was released, I was hesitant. I had read mixed reviews and was afraid I'd be disappointed. Shame on me! Not only did it not disappoint...it delighted. I laughed, cried and most of all, relaxed. There was a sense of stability and contentment, even knowing what's to come, that wasn't present in any of the previous books.

Yes, it was a little slower-paced, and yes, it 'jumps around', but I found it to be like a diary of their daily lives. My only complaint is that I'll have to wait who-knows-how-long for the next one!

Summary: Bring on the next one!
Review: This book leaves me very impatient for the next! Time was well spent reading this lovely masterpiece.

Summary: The Best Description of True Love
Review: I discovered Diana Gabaldon in January 2002. By April, I had devoured every one of her books. By June, I was touring the Culloden Battlefield, Inverness, Stirling and the Highlands of Scotland. Along the way, I met others who were also excited about Claire and Jaime. I even landed a great new job because of my interest. The best part of the Fiery Cross is the chapter where Jamie tells Claire how much he loves her. I finally knew what 18th century women meant by swooning. Diana's next book cannot come fast enough for me. No one else comes close to writing great historical romance with time travel to boot.
