Rating: Summary: Best written guidebook to Costa Rica available! Review: The authors' thoughtful comments are always on target, whether they are reviewing cabins on the beach, describing monkeys scrambling through treetops, or the view from a volcano. Their sustainable tourism rating system is the best "eco-label" I've seen -- if you are a concerned "green" traveler, refer to this book. I've lived in Costa Rica for 10 years, and this is the guidebook I always use, always recommend.
Rating: Summary: My favorite Costa Rica Guidebook Review: The New Key to Costa Rica remains my favorite Costa Rica guidebook, in spite of many new guidebooks to the area. It has a good track record (13 editions), and the authors continue to research and present a wide assortment of exhaustive, updated, accurate information about Costa Rica. They manage to convey their enthusiasm for the country and to provide a balanced picture with some helpful travel facts, as well as travelers' cautions. Their manage to inject a viewpoint which is personal but fair. This is the guidebook I took with me on my trip to Costa Rica, and I found it to be extremely useful and helpful (everything I needed was there--sometimes you have to search a little) as well as fresh and readable.
Rating: Summary: Key to Costa Rica is the most up-to-date source of CR info Review: Things are changing fast in Costa Rica, and The New Key to Costa Rica remains your best source for up-to-date information on lodging, restaurants, and things to see and do in all price ranges. Long regarded as the "Bible" for those wanting to experience Costa Rica on their own, the new 14th edition sports a new user-friendly format, 24 maps, and a new cover and photographs. You'll find information that is not in other guidebooks, like how to combine travel and volunteerism, how to make sure that your tourist dollar is supporting the environment, and how to find the right language school. Having the most up-to date information can help you get a lot more out of your vacation. For more info and excerpts from the latest edition, go to keytocostarica.com
Rating: Summary: Good book! Review: This book is a testament to the evolution of "ecotourism." Now its lucky 13th
edition, the book continues to evaluate eco-lodges and the ways tourism impacts the
environment, for better or worse. Ron Mader

Rating: Summary: best one yet Review: This is the best book we've found so far. We used it to plan our trip, id hotels that we wanted to stay at, determine where we wanted to go, etc. We go on the trip in November and will definitely be taking this with us but in terms of preparation it was a must have for us

Rating: Summary: If you want an ECO-guide, this is it Review: We have travelled to Costa Rica on vacation half a dozen times, and the New Key has always been our primary guide (yes, we have also carried a variety of the other major guides). What distinguishes this guide is bolded in the title: Ecological ratings. It tell you who recycles, who has purchased rainforest for preservation, and who is conducting research or other eco-friendly activities. The reason people visit Costa Rica is the natural environment, and this guide helps you both navigagte it and preserve it at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed - there are much better other guides Review: We just returned from Costa Rica where we used this book. We were disappointed at the incorrect and misleading comments the author makes throughout the book. For example, the author opens the description of Monteverde by describing the drive as "through deforested, eroded pastures." I wonder where the author gets her information as the climate, soils, and environment at Monteverde is what creates the special cloud forest. This same enviroment does not exist at the lower enviroment. The route up does pass through small communities and family farms. The author demonstrates her lack of botany or plant ecology background. In addition to inaccurate description of the environment, we found the information in the book dated. We preferred to use the lonely planet and frommers guides.
Rating: Summary: The best Costa Rica guidebook we found Review: When my family and I decided to vacation in Costa Rica, I bought several guidebooks. This is, by far, the best of the lot. Prices and descriptions are accurate, and I especially appreciated the e-mail and Web site addresses. This allowed me to finalize prices and make reservations without expensive phone calls. We continued to use the guidebook when we arrived in-country. The descriptions and historical backgrounding were accessible to all of us, and our four teen-aged sons often asked me to read aloud the "New Key" information about our next destination.
