Summary: Very Useful But Could Be Better
Review: Of the three map guides I have used to navigate Paris -- the other 2 being PARIS PRATIQUE PAR ARRONDISSEMENT and the little Blue Michelin map guide -- Middleditch's is by far the most beautiful. Metro stops, arrondissements, tourist sights are included; the maps are large and bright; the book is large, but not too large; and yet...

To me, the most important thing a map guide could do is get me from Point A to Point B without too much time-wasting confusion in between. Where all the map guides fail is by not including good bus maps. The Metro is great, but you see only the dark underside of Paris; whereas a trip along Bus #69 will take you from the Eiffel Tower past the Louvre and Hotel de Ville through the Marais and Menilmontant to the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. A comparable trip along the same route underground would involve one more more of the dread "correspondances," which are underground commuter rat races up and down stairs, ramps, and escalators to distant transfer points.

This guide actually tries to suggest the different bus routes by including widely dispersed little red numbers which are impossible to follow closely. If you really have to use the bus, you'd have to print the "plans de quartier" and bus routes from the RATP's website .

We had a whole sheaf of these route and quartier maps with us, so we enjoyed Paris to the utmost, taking the Metro only on Sunday and evenings, when the bus service winds down.

One additional gripe: It would not have been terribly difficult to include taxi stations, as the Michelin maps do.

Despite my criticisms above, the mapguide is excellent, but not that much better than the other two I mentioned. And I realize it would be much more difficult to do justice to bus routes (as they are so changeable), but the opportunity is there to make it a great guide.

Summary: Don't Leave Home Without It!
Review: Print is large enough to easily read, but overall size of book is small enough to fold and place in most jacket pockets, purses and shoulder bags. Informative enough to be the only reference material you need when leaving your hotel room for your daily excursuions through out the city.

Summary: One and Only you'll need...
Review: SUPERB mapbook - the BEST (and I've tried nearly all!) Need the Monoprix or Prixunic nearest your hotel? It's there. Major sites/monuments? Bien sur. Important phone numbers? Oui. A bank? Pourquoi non? Even drugstores and churches are marked, as are major dept stores, boutiques and the like. Info section is basic enough to be helpful but not overwhelming. Easy to use, small, thin, but SO COMPLETE there's no point to any other map collection. Typeface is good and clear (tiny, yes - but that's necessary.) Have used for many years (replacing as they fall apart - literally!) and never have I been lost or even disoriented (and I have a terrible sense of direction!) I won't change so long as this GEM is published! See London's version, too - equally as marvelous.

Summary: Indispensable
Review: The Paris Mapguide is an essential element of enjoying Paris. I used it even before I got to Paris because it made it much easier to pinpoint the location of hotels I was considering and allowed me to better judge the distances from a hotel location to the sights I planned to visit. Once in Paris, the guide was a great tool because it was lightweight and used in conjunction with a large folding map, it enhanced my ability to travel within the city without getting lost. Easy to carry, larger type for easier viewing, and excellent detail make this guide a must have.

Summary: Quick and Easy Reference
Review: This book is fabulous. It is so easy to use and lightweight for travelling. No need to bring any other heavy guidebooks on your trip to Paris. I have had mine for a few years and have loaned it to friends and my sister. They all agreed that it was helpful. Simple to understand and read. Maps are precise and easy to follow. Even gives insight on good shopping areas, restaurants and museums. I highly recommend this guide.

Summary: Truly the ONLY map you will need!!
Review: This book saved me from getting lost every day of my trip! This was the only map that I used and it worked wonderfully. There is a reference guide in the back so if you find yourself on the wrong street you can just look it up and figure out where you need to go. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: super book
Review: This book was a great help to us in our recent trip to Paris. It is easy to use, gives tons of good info about sites to see, and lists all the metro stops. Its size is good as well, easily fitting in a pocket. Recommend this book to new and seasoned travelers to Paris.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I found this book invaluable on my recent (Oct. 98) to Paris
Review: This could be the only travel book you need for visiting Paris. The maps are very clear, and the size is convenient. While the maps are the core of the book, the additional material on museums, monuments, etc. is helpful. There's also a clear map of the metro system.

Summary: Going to Paris? BUY THIS BOOK!
Review: This is a map book of all Paris! Do you know what Thomas Bros. maps are? this is one for Paris... If you have never been to Paris, YOU WILL NEED THIS MAP! Paris is very confusing and you will get lost or loose your perspective of where you are. Buy it before you go... I did, and it never left my hand!

Summary: The Only Map You Need
Review: This mapguide was absolutely incredible and WAS the only map we needed to find our way around Paris. Easy to read, with Metro and RER stations, street names and attractions clearly marked. We eagerly share this book with others who will be visiting the city and they, too, are amazed at how well it is done. I will soon be spending time in Prague, Budapest, and Vienna, and I wish similar maps were available.
