Rating: Summary: Experience the photos and adventures of a real American hero Review: If you want to experience the true Alaska as few have ever done, no need to make a pilgrimage to the far north. All you need to do is read this book about a photographer's solo odyssey into the wilderness of Alaska in search of getting the great shot. The shot, that transforms photography into emotionally evoking art. The shot , that exudes the magnificence of the photo into telling the full rich story around it. The shot, that envelops the viewer with both the tenderness and majaesty of nature. John Pezzenti's journeys not only allowed him to capture this "Holy Grail' shot but unbelievably a whole book of them. In my estimation his work is unparalleled in his field. John is truely one of the premier wildlife photographers of our time. Equally fascinating to the absolutely stunning photography, is the human story behind it. John chronicles his amazing adventures on his journeys. He details his harrowing survival struggles to awe inspiring revelations with candor and humor. John presents himself to the reader not as some superhero but as an everyday person with all our human fragility. While reading John's book it dawned on me that it is an antithesis to Conrads's "The Heart of Darkness". John and Marlow both, endure the brutalities of our world in their journeys, but while Marlow is left only with "bitterness and darkness", John is left with "wonderment and light". I would like to mention that though nature has thrown John some mighty barriers in his quest, the greatest hurdle lies within himself. John is classified 100% disabled with a rare and agressive form of rheumatoid arthritis, treatable only with a mild chemotherapy so he can walk. Experience this book! The reproduction of John's work is exquisite and the price surprisingly low.
Rating: Summary: Picture Perfect! Review: In my opinion, John Pezzenti's new book ALASKA is an award winner! It is like nothing ever before published. The layout is totally origional and keeps the reader excited about reading and enjoying the professional photographs taken by this world famous photographer. John Pezzenti has been my long time friend since birth and he has been so dedicated to creating a new coffee table book of Alaskan wildlife! John's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has brought him through many unconquerable feats. His trust in God's power and love has resulted in all of his needs met while working on this book. John's heart has been touched by those unfortunate people in Calcutta and out of the kindness of his heart has donated a great proportion of his earnings to the helping of these people. In my opinion of this book I would have to say that there could be no better conversation piece for your coffee table so don't wait! Order your personal copy of Alaska now!!
Rating: Summary: The best representation of what the Alaskan wilderness is. Review: John Pezzanti's A Photographic Journey Through the Last Wilderness is undoubtedly the best presentation of what the last wilderness really is, that I have ever seen. His dedication to the art of photography is illustrated on every page start to finish. Not only by his images but by his sincere feelings and experiences through his writing. Any aspiring photographer, myself included, can only learn from John's work. John has taken what God created for all of us and captured it on film and given it to those who may never have the opportunity to go and experience it except in his book. A definite 10! Keep on clicking, John.
Rating: Summary: Johns Alaska From The Eye of His Camera Review: John Pezzenti's ALASKA is something I treasure and it takes me to places where in my 15 years of living there I was not fortunate enough to go and see all the things John has, the sleepy fox, the eagles fighting in flight, the Mother and daughter Moose and I could go on and on but it's all in the book for you to see and enjoy. I thought John had told me about what it took for him to take all these wonderful pictures but I had to read the the story about his travels to fully understand just what it does take to have them so natural as only he can. I have been privolaged enough to hear about them first hand for we have been friends for many years and I Have been so blessed with his friendship, But when I read his account of the journey I found myself staying up well past bed time I became so fascinated and I found He had only told me small parts of what he has to do. Because to him it is all part of what John is. To know John is one of my greatest blessing's and to read his book and look at all the wonderful pictures is a joy beyond words. If you never get to Alaska or never get to meet John in person you will still feel like you know him just by reading and seeing what all the book has to offer. He Called me get your camera and come on down the swans are on the lake. I go knowing my pictures won't be like his but just watching John work is all enspiring. So when I see the Swan's picture I remember the kind man who wanted me to see them also. I was so impressed with the book I keep checking Book stores to be sure that they have it dispayed where it is easy to find for I want family and friends to be able to find it in their City. Thanks for sharing your book and I wait anxiously for the next ones.
Rating: Summary: A majestic portrayal of a majestic land. Review: John Pezzenti's dramatically beautiful book captures the magic of Alaska and keeps it alive for all of us who have visited this majestic state. Alaska's beauty is remarkable from any perspective, but John Pezzenti's dazzling photography is able to portray and grasp it up close and in action in a way that no one else has ever done. His work reflects a great respect for nature and an unusual sensitivity for living creatures. This respect, almost awe, extends to the inanimate but ever-changing wonders of the land from fireweed to volcanoes. His writing also reflects the same spirituality and reverence for nature as does his perceptive photographic eye. This book will excite poets, adventurers and nature lovers alike.
Rating: Summary: Truly a journey that touches the heart, mind and spirit. Review: Once you have met John Pezzenti, you will understand that this artist and his incredible photographs are one entity. John's "ALASKA..." will take you on an incredible journey through the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, into the soul of an unforgettable man. Five years ago, I walked into a conference room at the World Trade Center in Manhattan. A man stood beside a display of exquisitely breathtaking photographs, protecting them like an anxious parent; listening to every word, every comment, as if there might be some question about the magnificence of his work. That enigma was John Pezzenti, Jr. Those privileged to know him, have experienced the complexities of the man: Passionate, sensitive, wild as Alaska, free as the wind and sometimes, as immovable as the mountains. His life and his photographs have made an indelible impression. Language seems a truly inadequate means of conveying the experience of John's "ALASKA" book. The photographs seem to have a life of their own. Speaking directly to the heart and soul, they give a glimpse into the spirit of the man who created them. This is a soul that seems to dance somewhere between heaven and earth. A soul that has borne burdens that few of us could shoulder, but one that has known transcendent heights that few will ever reach. With each page, John's photographs and stories allow us to share his incredible gift, and to see places on this earth that seem closer to heaven. John's spirit is as wild and free as the Alaskan wilderness. Nature seems to recognize a kindred spirit. You will feel certain that he has been granted special permission to view the sacred, and that at times, nature must say "wait, keep that until John gets here." But such honors are not bestowed without tremendous tests of courage and endurance, endless patience, and unquestioning faith. No work of this magnitude is brought to fruition without great sacrifices, and John has made more than his share. John has the unique talent of capturing the essence of the moment - then combining it with a fragment of his own soul - the result is this spectacular gift he has given to the world. No one can experience "ALASKA: A Photographic Journey..." and not be deeply moved. The superb imagery and heart warming words speak to everyone in a unique way. It will draw you in, touching your heart and soul each time you open its pages to relive the journey. Again and again it will surprise you, revealing something new with each reading. Thank you, John for sharing your vision. Your book is dearly treasured, and keeps Alaska close to my heart until I return. God Bless, John. We await your next creation.

Rating: Summary: 5 Star Photos, 5 Star Writing. Pezzenti is Alaska's Best! Review: There are a great many picture books on Alaska, some which contain exceptional photgraphic elements. There are a great many journalistic books on Alaska, some which are so well written the reader is taken with and to The Great Land. John Pezzenti's book epitomizes the best of both. Like Alaska, this book is greater than it's physical boundaries. It evokes the senses and the emotions. This is one photo book that is a must read!
