Summary: Been there, done that
Review: A current and concise book with relevant helpful details for selecting a decent restaurant while traveling in Italy.

The resturants listed are largely a matter of taste, but in general are quite good. I never felt ripped off by any of the restaurants the author recommends. Her assessments were fairly accurate, although the dishes she describes aren't necessarily available.

One major criticism is the organzation of the material. The book isn't the easiest to follow. It requires flipping between pages and sections to gleen together map locations and specific information.

Summary: Very useful book
Review: This is a great book to have. With the number of restaurants in the major tourist centers of Italy, many serving very mediocre food, it is nice to have a way to find some good places.

I have the 3rd edition of this book (published in 1999) which I just used during a trip to Rome. Even though that book is old, I found the recommended restaurants to still be excellent. I am sure that the current 4th edition is even better.

A key feature of the book was the maps showing the locations of the recommended restaurants. This made finding nearby restaurants very easy. The other book I used on my trip was "Gambero Rosso Rome." That book had no maps, so was very hard to use.

Summary: A Great Help
Review: We used the 3rd edition of this guide for a trip in 2001 to Florence, Venice & Rome.
The only bad meals we eat were when we didn't use the guide.
Al Fagianetto was near our hotel in Rome and we ended up eating lunch or dinner there nearly every day.
Many restaurants were out of the usual tourist areas but well worth the effort to find good food at reasonable prices.
We will surely use Gustafson's other guides in the future.
