Summary: A worthy teacher?
Review: It's disappointing to read about an enthusiastic world traveler's unashamed lack of sensitivity to the culture that he's visiting. Included in the author's comments on Egypt was an incident in which he and his girlfriend were kissing under the dome in a mosque, for which they got kicked out. The author recounted this incident as funny and seemed to show no remorse for his offensive behavior and lack of cultural understanding. You know, it might seem like a tiny point to some, but this is exactly the type of behavior that has led to the closing of many mosques and religious sites to non-believers. It seems the author himself still has many lessons to yet learn from his travels.

Summary: Making the First Step Easier
Review: Mr. Olsen does an excellent job of providing the reader with an introduction to the experience of full-time world traveling. Rather than act as a tour guide, this book takes on the voice of a mentor and friend, showing the reader what to prepare for in the ways of joy as well as fustration that a traveler will encounter throughout their journeys. Instead of listing things to do and see in certain places, this book guides the reader into the lifestyle of not just viewing, but fully experiencing and appreciating different cultures while maintaining a general love of life and adventure. Top ten lists such as best bashes, most overrated places, and places most likely to get ripped off have helped me choose the ideal destinations for what I am searching and provided me with the right mind set for each location; all without ruining the spirit of personal discovery. If you are considering traveling for an extended period of time, this book will not be the last, all complete guide that you will buy. Instead, it will be the first.?@It will be the book that will offer a hand in taking the first, most difficult step, and then be there for support through out your journey.

Summary: In defense of Mr. Olsen
Review: The previous reviewer who called Olsen's book racist and sterotypical is WAY off base. Nothing could be further from the truth. Throughout the entire book, Olsen urges travelers to treat the people and places they visit with respect.

Reviewer, did you not read pg. 174? Olsen describes how the white man "drastically reduced" the Aboriginal population "through disease and genocide". He then goes on to describe how the Aboriginal culture can still be found in some places. Dosen't sound "racist" to me.

After re-reading the chapter on Australia, it sounds to me like Brad is very interested in in the Aboriginals, and for more than just their "boisterous" drinking habits.

I loved World Stompers, and for that reason, I cannot let this slanderous treatment of it go without response. I encourage anybody to buy this book, because it is not only fascinating and informative, but it is respectful of the different cultures that exsist throughout the world.

Summary: Inspired me to travel
Review: This book helped me quit my job and travel around the world for 1 1/2 years. Sure I probably would have done it without the book, but reading and re-reading the inspirational chapters in this book helped me to attain my goal. The country maps and descriptions are also a great resourse when planning your trip.

Not sure what the reviewer is talking about in relation to racism. This book, and the author, seem to be very open minded and responsible when it comes to other travelers.

Summary: Very weak book
Review: This is one of the few books that was so bad that I actually returned it. Very superficial information in the book. Too much focus on where to get drugs across the world. Very little focus on the experience of a world tour. Do not waste your money on this book.
