Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best atlas of Texas
Review: If you are considering purchasing the Delorme Texas Atlas and Gazetteer, buy this instead. I have two copies of the Roads of Texas and I use them extensively. The Delorme book has hardly been touched.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: As Complete As You Can Get
Review: No, The Roads of Texas is not perfect. Some minor roads are not named, but that is because not all counties have completed naming or numbering their roads. Each new edition shows improvement in this aspect. There are also at least two situations where one map page does not completely join with the page to the immediate south so there is coverage gap of one to two miles. It does not show roads that are closed to the motoring public such as private, oil field or most US Forest Service roads. However, it shows ALL the state highways (the official state travel map does not) and all county maintained roads. Furthermore, the detail is much superior to the DeLorme product. If you buy other maps (Roads of Arkansas, Oklahoma, etc.) from this company, you may be disappointed that the detail is not quite as high as the Roads of Texas. There is an extensive index of towns and communities so you can avoid confusing Buda, Buna, and Bedias. Plus there is some history and lore included, so this is not just a book of maps. I have worn out one copy, had two others "appropriated" by friends and I am about to wear out my latest copy.

Summary: The Roads of Texas
Review: Now that I have my new "Roads of Texas" map, one of my favorite activities -- getting lost while doing research for Tourin Texas Newsletter -- has nearly come to a screeching halt. With Ms. Intrepid at the wheel and me riding shotgun with that oversized publication in my lap like a dinner napkin I'm obliged to know where we are. And where we're going to turn next. And what's up ahead after that. And how many miles is that. And... well you get the idea.

You can still get lost using this publication but it's better than any state highway map even if you aren't prowling backroads.

Summary: Not perfect, but best road atlas of Texas
Review: O.k. not THE perfect map of Texas but much better than the Delorme Gazetteer. The importance of the roads can be easily identified. And you can easily see what is a paved, a gravel or just a dirt road. It is easy to identify where to have some 4WD fun on dirt roads and fords and where to stay on paved roads. I just love that.
Even the smallest roads are numbered and you can identify which roads are private (locked) and which ones are public. Although this is not consistent throughout the whole map. This needs to be improved.
I also would like to see some topographic contours to give you an idea how the landscape looks like. Not something important but nice to have. But despite this I really like this map and have been using it for several years.

My suggestions for improvements:
- Overlay of a geographical grid to make it more usable with GPS
- Add in of topographic contours
- Some overlap between pages (only a few miles would be nice)
- Yearly update to cover all changes

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than the rest!
Review: Shows much more detail than the DeLorme Texas Atlas, including useful information like road names, place names and surface condition.

A better grid for GPS use would be helpful but overall I am impressed.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: useless in towns and cities
Review: The maps are really nicely laid out, but, unless you travel the back roads, it's pretty useless. The maps of towns and cities are totally unusable. Get the Delorme one and accept that you'll have to replace it every few years.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It's the best map for us Texans and our visitors.
Review: This is the best map you can buy for Texas. You will not find a more detailed and mistake free TX road map. I don't know how I ever made it with anything else.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Sure it's got the roads, but not the names.
Review: Well, this book is full of roads. But when they aren't identified, this book is practically useless. How do you give directions as "three lines south, then four lines west"? I'm returning it and looking for another one.
