Summary: Virginia Like a Native!
Review: It's Wednesday evening. You're trying to think of something new and different to do with you weekend. Your loved one(s) are bored and restless and want to do something different. It's all up to you... What to do...

If you've been there before, there is one solution - this book of great maps. In addition to the detailed accuracy of the maps, there is a great section that details locations of interest, places to go, things to do, phone numbers you can call to make arrangements and get info. This could be the book that saves your weekend!

Stored in your car, it could also be the book that get's you where you want to go without driving to a gas station to get directions. If you've tried that lately, you know that your chances of getting good directions to far-off places are slim to none.

I have purchased several of these books - one for each state that I frequent. Whenever I want to get away, I take them out and see what I can find. We have visited covered bridges, homes built by Frank Lloyd Wright, cliffs and caves, museums and all kinds of historic landmarks.

For the price of a nice meal, you will have a travel companion for many years to come. While you can get maps on the internet, most of us still don't have that at our disposal when we are on the road. This book will be your guide!

Summary: Not a normal atlas.
Review: Normally, atlases give you a tiny overview of the whole area and then zoom in on the metro areas and places of interest to travellers. This one has no zoomed in areas. Every page is at a broad overview magnification, so it's tough to see even major highways and roads in the metro areas. Not good if you are new to the area!!! Apparently, the "gazetteer" in its title means it focuses on topography, which it does. It's mislabelled as an "atlas and gazetteer."

Summary: great guide to things to do, good rural atlas
Review: This atlas has nearly all the back roads in the state, labled by number (which is not always on the street sign). It does not have any detail in cities and large towns, just the main streets. But it has a great guide to things to do: parks and forests, some hiking trails, all the private campgrounds in the state, some bike routes, some canoe trips, lots of info on places to fish and hunt, tons of historic sites and museums of all kinds, civil war sites, gardens, wildlife viewing areas, unique natural features, some wineries, a few waterfalls, several senic drives, and even boat trips. A great guide for exploring the state, though you will need a regular highway map as well.

Summary: Atlas & outdoor recreation guide to Virginia
Review: Virginia is for map lovers, with all its historic and natural attractions! And, the Virginia Atlas & Gazetteer is the most comprehensive collection of maps and visitor information available for the Old Dominion. The topographic maps define the lay of the land, from the Appalachian Mountains to the Tidewater Basin. And, there is copious information on Civil War sites, historic homes and plantations, plus caverns, waterfalls, boat trips, wineries and scenic drives-including the famous Blue Ridge Parkway and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.The scale is 1:150,000 or 1" to 2.4 miles. A mosaic of all the maps would measure 17 feet wide by 7ΒΌ feet high.

Summary: This is an old edition
Review: WARNING -- WARNING -- WARNING

Delorme published a 5th edition in 2003. This edition (4th edition) is an older one. If you want the most currecnt edition you will need to look else where. This edition is copywright 2000 with information that appears to be accurate to 1999. New roads, etc not on this edition.

Although it will probably be acceptable for many uses, just make certain that you are willing to buy the older edition.
