I'm a native and I found so many hidden treasures such as coffee shops, libraries, and places you'd never think to spot celebrities. Everything that defines NY is in this book, from the Soup Nazi (a la Seinfeld) to picturesque hideouts in Central Park. And everything NY has to offer...personal chefs, where to find a tailor at 3am, $25 massages. Enjoy!

I usually pride myself in keeping up with what's happening - but I must admit this book has made my life much much easier with less effort. I am going to Paris in the fall - please tell me they will have one for Paris ssssssoooooonnnnnnnnn? (I have given several away to friends and they love them too.)

THANK GOD for Savvy in the city. Instead of taking Zagat's, books on shopping and more, I only had to have this book with me. It looks so cute too that I was not embarrased to pull it out. My friend used it too who I was staying with over the weekend. I wish you had one for Dallas??? I would buy this book for every city! Keep em' coming.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Tres chic "trip" into New York's Casas Les Femmes... Review: Jet-Setter Jayne Young and by-line buddy Becker have concocted an Americanized version of a "Chelsea Ranger's" bible to guide the adventurous neophyte or thoroughly initiated adept(ess)through The Big Apple. "SAVVY in the CITY: New York" takes an x-ray visionary's look at Metropolis' mysteries in Food, Fashion, Art...fine and not so fine...and the high-class haunts where America's elite meet to eat and PARTY-down.Unlike "Kings"(Frommer & Fodor conglomerate tracts) SAVVY's target is once-and-future Queens who want to make most of trips to New York and might "die" if the experience is simply "a la turista". Miss Jayne has organized a battle-array of "scenes": EATS; TREATS; TRAUMAS; TREASURES; TWILIGHT & TRIPPING are categories "See Jane Go" presents as oriflammes. Jayne Young brings assured insights into what's GOOD,BAD and UGLY in New York for a woman to know to affect the right attitude; dress and Credit Card to get up at Dawn and get-down at Night. On page 197, Casa La Femme in the Soho District of Lower Manhattan is adjudged "Winner of the See Jane Go" prize for most "date-friendly" atmosphere. Read her description of the venue which she introduces: ROCK the CASBAH!...a world of plush cushions...and curtained tents for the "romantic Bedouin in all of us..." A place for "the sizzling second date" with grass floors and backgammon boards for "the bored". This is a fascinating guide into a demi-monde along with de rigueur sights & sounds. Jayne Young even mentions( p.203) Underground Clubs...like Andy Warhol sponsored in MIDNIGHT COWBOY...that are too cool for school with the thrill in being invited to hobnob with the bad and beautiful. Even if you don't buy the occasional self-congratulatory tone of language SAVVY lapses into, this is a fun book to read. A hip Fairy Tale replacing "See Puff & Jane" with Jane and her buddy Becker galavanting in the Empire city. Young has written a follow-up SAVVY for San Francisco. These Guide Books seem to have a future for readers looking for sass and class (or decadence)with their dollar-a-day tours and continental breakfast...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: very, very savvy Review: Savvy in the City is truly the first guide book I have actually followed! It is easy to use (divided by needs and locations), funny to read, and most of all true to its words.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Great ideas, no organization Review: This book has some really fun, practical ideas for residents new to New York, but they're organized along random, loose lines, with neighborhoods as subsections. Do the authors list video delivery? If they do, would it be in "Treats," "Traumas" or "Tripping"? If it is listed, is it sublisted in my neighborhood? Oh, and where was that description of a store that has every button imaginable--which category and then in which neighborhood? There's no index. The table of contents doesn't offer a clue. Maddening.

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Interesting, but not very helpful Review: This is a cute little book that would probably be fun for someone who had recently moved to New York City and was trying to find their way to fun things to do and see. We didn't find it very useful for our very brief visit to the city. The references to fun places to have "girl stuff" done were intriguing, and, as I said, would probably be fun for someone who lived in the city. Overall, for planning a quick visit -- or a first-time visit -- I don't think people would find this book very helpful.
