Summary: lots of information but poor organization and writing
Review: I love penguins and so does Ron Naveen. His admiration for these small creatures and his awe of them and the environment in which they live is palpable in this book. Regrettably, although there is alot of good information in his new book, it is poorly organized; the writing is frequently mediocre or worse, and it is terribly repetitive. What it needs is a good editor.

Summary: Wonderful read from a world-class naturalist!
Review: I loved this book. It is beautifully written with an underlining message of environmental stewardship. The antics and bustle of penguin behavior are combined with historical snippets from the southern continent. This engaging account is told from the first hand perspective of a wonderful naturalist, Ron Naveen.

Summary: Gotta laugh, gotta smile - penguins are waiting for you!
Review: Penguins are a hoot - hard-charging, hardwired, breeding and feeding machines that give us humans fits of joy. Why? Partly because these amusing, human-like creatures resemble us too closely, waddling about like small children clad in spiffy tuxedos. And while making us laugh and smile, they're sending messages about connecting better to the planet and leading our lives a bit more sensibly.

"My" penguins - the chinstraps, Adelies, and gentoos - live in the planet's most emotionally stirring wilderness and survive some of the worst weather imaginable. You've got to admire animals that endure freezing conditions all the time. There's only a short window of opportunity each year to get home, find mates, lay eggs, raise chicks, and get out before the fierce Antarctic winter sets in. But penguins carry on rather successfully and seem to have mastered evolution better than we have.

Read WAITING TO FLY and I guarantee a never-ending addiction to these playful, inspiring creatures who are so full of themselves - cocky, cute, and so very, very busy. WAITING TO FLY recounts tales of my times working with penguins and, during these days of revived interest in Shackleton and other Antarctic explorers, stories of scientists and others who've braved the odds to unravel the secrets of the penguins' manic lives.

Penguins have invaded my life - and I trust they'll become part of yours. Welcome to it.

Summary: ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT PENGUINS
Review: THERE IS SOOOOOO MUCH HERE - THE HISTORY OF PENGUIN RESEARCH IN THE ANTARCTIC PENINSULA, TALES OF THE LIVES OF THESE FUZZY ANIMALS, AND A MEATPHYSICAL GLIMPSE AS TO WHY PENGUINS AFFECT US SO HAPPILY, SO POSITIVELY. NAVEEN'S STORIES ARE TOTALLY ENGAGING, WEAVING IN MYRIAD FACTS AND DETAILS ABOUT CHINSTRAP, ADELIE, AND GENTOO PENGUINS, BUT NOT TO THE POINT THAT THE READER IS OVERWHELMED. ONE IS TAKEN SOUTH, FAR SOUTH, TO WHERE PENGUINS GRAB YOU AND NEVER LET GO. LOTS OF FUN READING - AND A MUST FOR ANY ANIMAL LOVER.
