Review: Michael Lanza has written a great book for learning how to travel in the backcountry. Even as a beginner you will feel confident in getting out there armed with his knowledge and experiences. A potentially dry book, Michael has included many personal stories and mishaps that make the pages turn quickly. From the way it sounds, if it can happen in the backcountry, it's happened to him. He includes what he has learned the hard way and I'm sure has prevented many mishaps for people who have read this. This is a great book and has proved invaluable for my first adventures.
