Summary: Truth more fascinating than fiction
Review: Private investigator Kelly Clark has an adventurous spirit. That spirit leads her to take investigative contracts on the forgotten continent of Africa. She stares death in the face and somehow lives to write about it.

That synposis sounds like a page-turning novel, but this book is much better because it is true. Kelly James is a red-headed American who fell in love with adventure when she as a youngster and tells of her African experience in four stirring vignettes. She is a modern renaissance woman. A master of African culture, regional history and the human condition. She also writes incredibly well.

This book is not for the weak or soft any more than Indiana Jones would appeal to those of high sensitivities. James' Africa is harsh and real. As the sun beats down, mankind also often does the same to its fellow earthly inhabitants. But the lessons James teaches are invaluable. Her love for Africa and its people is indisputable. James teaches us lessons poignantly and with page-turning adventure. Western arrogance can be very dangerous.

A must-read, I recommend this book to all readers who don't need life candy-coated. A winner!

Summary: Fascinating stories
Review: Suspenseful, exciting book filled with stories that are really compelling. And it's such a treat to read true stories about extraordinary women, wonderfully written by an extraordinary woman. I'm looking forward to more from this gifted writer.

Summary: Can't wait to hear more from this author!
Review: The striking cover and provocative title drew me to this book and I was NOT disappointed! Kelly James' first work is part autobiography, part adventure, part observer--always fascintating. I hope she'll publish more of her adventures with deeper contectual references to the political-social background of her work in Africa. While I am awestruck by the heroic acts of individuals she describes, I found myself wanting to know more details.

Summary: Wondrous story teller, gripping tales
Review: These four wonderful stories present great adventures by an incredibly spirited and sensitive woman who admires her subjects, the lives they lead and the insights their lives offer to our troubled world. They are a tribute to four strong women by a private investigator hired to find lost persons. Nevertheless, this is neither a woman's book, nor a social treatise, rather it is an exceptional page turner by a vigorous writer whose personal adventures are startling for their bravery, the range of encounters and her sensitivity.

Summary: A remarkable writing about remarkable people (who are women)
Review: This book is dynamite. It's compelling content belies its origins as a series of letters from the author to her grandmother. Reads like a good adventure novel with the added impact that these encounters really happened. Deeply sympathetic to the people of this troubled continent in which the author worked as a private investigator. Wonderful.

Summary: Thank You Kelly James!
Review: This book is the best adventure-nonfiction-drama I've ever read. I was told it was for women, but I'm a guy and just kept turning the pages, hoping it would never end. James has a way of capturing one in the moment and not letting go. In the shortest amount of pages, she delivers a maximum of excitement, and information on subjects otherwise not available. WHEN will we see more of Kelly James' work????

Summary: A true page turner!
Review: This is truly a book that captures you in its grip
and the personalities of its characters! Couldn't put
it down until I knew how Lorraine and Kelly ended
their heroic ordeal. Looking forward to more adventures.

Summary: a fearless woman's tale
Review: What an unbelievable exciting uninhibited writer. To have her fearlessness. I wish she would write another book. I can't wait to read the next one. Africa is such an adrenaline rush and she writes it like it feels when you are there. Outstanding writer, unbelievable woman. Jambo for writing one of the best books I've read in years.

Summary: The Greatest heros and heroins will never be known!
Review: What comes across in Kelly James writing is this. Great courage and acts of unselfish heroism are happening in the most desparate areas of the planet and we will never hear about them. History will pass these people (mostly women) by but what they sacrificed is no less than the great heros in history. Her language is "shoot from the hip" but the messages are from the heart. Any book that shifts your perspective and changes your life for having read it, is a jewel and this one is required reading. I cannot look at people the same after reading this book. You will never forget the stories and the fact they are real people, real places and real events is amazing. I buy copies of the book for my friends.
