Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended Account of searching for Che Review: This is a great read. Having travelled the Central Andean route taken by Symmes almost twenty-five years ago, I was transported back by his excellent descriptions of the route and the hardships and beauty that haven't changed over the years.Chasing Che is an excellent blend of the politics, history, geography and sociology of southern Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia with the trials and tribulations of following Symmes motorcycling his way following the route Che took 30+ years earlier himself on a motorcycle, which transformed him into the world's most famous revolutionary.Highly Recommended
Rating: Summary: read after motorcycle diary Review: well written, very entertaining. sometimes a little too much detail. A great summary of recent political history of the countries visited. Not as adventurous as Che, of course. points out alot of things that i didn't notice on my first read of Che's diary. also colaborates the whole journey with Che's travel partner's diary... which is only available in spanish. Although I found some inacurracies in his retelling of their story. maybe he didn't expect anyone to check up on him. he misses the obvious explaination of Che's last entry though probably because he didn't finish the trip. he missed columbia and venezuela and most importantly... the miami culture shock. all in all you gotta read it if you are interested in Che or travel narrative.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal Journey through History Review: Wow! I knew very little about Che before reading this book. I learned so much about not only him, but about Latin America today. I loved the fact that Mr. Symmes visits the same people and places that Che did. He interviews people about Che and talks about how Che got the name "Che." I love his sense of adventure...he captures the imagery of Bolivia, Peru and Chile vividly for his readers and enlightens us with interesting facts and descriptions. His spirit of adventure makes me want to travel to South America and to read more about Che. I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE! It is truly a phenomenal, inspiring and intellectual journey of the mind, body, and spirit.
