Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Too Much Past Not Enough Present
Review: Tedious read. Present day encounters with Irish folk were informative, but depth and connection were lacking. Too much history for my taste.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A wonderful mixture of history, travel, and anecdote
Review: This is the perfect gift book for anyone who loves traveling in Ireland, who loves Irish history, or who wants to know what Ireland is like.

Robert Ginna walked from one end of the island to the other and he tells about a journey through green fields, dark pubs, and places steeped in history all along the way. You can tell he has spent a lifetime of nosing around Ireland and a real love for the place comes through his writing.

Ginna shows how Ireland is changing today but how the past lies close to the surface everywhere. If you can't walk across Ireland yourself this book is the next best thing.
