Summary: Crichton's really Great but.....
Review: I think Crichton just wanted to write off a long vacation in France....and this book was the result. Hmmmm, on second thought, I think he had a legitimate seed for a book (regarding the time travel stuff) but couldnt make a story with legs to go with it (Writer's Block)..then took an extended vacation in France to 'forget about writing for awhile'..Then he decided that it would be cool to write off (taxwise) the trip to France by slapping this story together with the Time Travel idea. It just seems like two different ideas 'not so conveniently' combined into one.

His other stuff is great though!

I just think he can do better than this one.

Summary: Take some TIME out of ur life to read TIMELINE
Review: Time line is a great book that everyone should read. It starts otu as a mystery but evolves in a action packed book w/ plenty of action to make you want to countinue reading the book. THe story starts out when a man is discovered in the desert, dead. It seems like he appeared out of no where, but you later find out that his was a worker ar itc, or something like that. Well, one thing leads to another and in the end they send back in time chris, Andre and kate(they main ppl int eh story) and 2 tour guides. THings start to go wrong when the two tour guides get brutaly murdered and our heros find them selves alone in 1357 w/o any contact w/ the moderan world. THere is also an added twist, they only have 36 hours to get everyone together and get home. With this in mind our heros go through plenty of things to reach their goal of getting home safe and sound.
THis is a great book and i recomend it to anyone that has an intrest in the middle ages or to anyone that is looking for a great exciting book. (I'm older than 12, just didnt want to have to sign up for anything)

Summary: Violent and enjoyable.
Review: Crichton has got to be one of the few authors ever to fully explain time travel. You really have to comend him for that, even if there are a few holes in the explanation. So while the physics is a little unbelievable, the history isn't, Although many times the character's lives are saved by movie-like events. In fact, the whole book reads like a movie, but I have no problem with that.

Also, this isn't for the light of stomach, as it is one of the most gory books I've ever read. But truly enjoyable. Don't miss it.

Summary: TIMELINE
Review: A group of historians bite off more than they can chew when they agree to help a little-known but powerful corporation restore a medieval battle site in France. Some bizarre occurrences lead to the realization that the corporation's megalomanical CEO is secretly building an economic monopoly out of the past. The promise of quantum physics has been realized, and time travel is now a dream come true...

...or a nightmare. When Professor Edward Johnston gets stranded in the midst of bloodthirsty armies battling over the site he and his comrades were restoring, only a team of dedicated volunteers can save him. But what was supposed to be a "simple" search and rescue goes terribly awry, and the Professor's friends--not soldiers, not heroes, just historians--must become heroes if they or Johnston are to escape the deadly medieval arena in which they are trapped.

Endlessly entertaining and amazingly researched, "Timeline" is a spellbinding story of knights, bandits, castles and damsels in distress, a world of honor and treachery, chivalry and death, a battleground for the future and the past. Crichton's storytelling is nearly flawless, and the book, though long, flies along at breakneck pace. The characters--the good, the bad, and the ugly (and there are many of each)--are all believably developed and highly empathetic. The author even puts a neat spin on the legend of the Green Knight. Though not classic literature, "Timeline" is a great action novel and possibly the best time-travel opus ever. "Timeline" is popular fiction at its apex.

Summary: This is Just Fun
Review: Michael Crichton is just having fun with us now. The most believable parts of the book have to do with the nasty rich brat billionaire who causes all the problems in the first place. He kind of reminds one of a certain Mr. Gates. This book is not as terrifying as Jurassic Park, and I actually give it 4.5 stars, but it sure is fun to speculate about time travel. This is Mr. Crichton's strength: he gets us to thinking about interesting possibilities, even if the execution is sometimes a bit of a stretch. A good summer read.

Summary: SF at its best
Review: sure - Crichton is going for big effects. But by doing this he manages to raise interest for quantum physics and medivial european history at the same time. No matter how illogical the plot is (and I KNOW how illogical real quantum physics can sound) - it catches your interest, and amazingly much of it may be close to reality!

Summary: Light and Enjoyable
Review: There's not a whole lot of depth to this novel. There's not even too much origality. Crichton does create a fairly successful novel though. What he does is take several different genres - time travel, swashbuckling - and he combines them. He does so with a lot of humor and some decent characterizations. The technical writing part of this about time travel is so intriguing that it doesn't make you lose any interest in the book. He employs a lot of techniques like leaving a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter and using the against-the-clock device. Crichton doesn't break any new ground here, but a reader looking for pure entertainment should definitely be pleased with this fun novel.

Summary: About what you'd expect
Review: Crichton writes movies. His novels are always screenplay-ready. I'm not a fan of his, for that and many other reasons. I read this book because, well, because I'm a medieval junky. My complaints about this are those I have with all Crichton novels. Predictable plot, two dimensional characters and overall shininess being chief among those. This was an amusing diversion nonetheless.

The basic story is about a group of historians traveling back to the 14th century and getting into some adventures. The main flaws I can find in the portrayal of the middle ages are slight and mainly have to do with a glossing over of the medieval mindset to make it more accessible to the average modern reader. He does have a nice bibliography, though

Summary: A book that teaches you science as well as entertain you
Review: I am beginning to fall in love with what is known as "hard" science fiction. Hard science fiction is where authors base their science fiction novels on some facts of science. The author gives you a tutor on quantom physics in this book and bases his time travel on very scientific knowledge. Some of it is made up but some of it isn't. I am beginning to enjoy science fiction writers who don't make up everything. Crichton not only aim in this novel is to entertain you but to teach you not only science but some history as well. When I read something that not only tries to entrain me but teach me a few things as well I walk away feeling like I didn't waste my time reading this novel. When a writer teaches you science and histroy in an entertaining way that keeps your interest through the whole novel it opens up a new world for you to explore that you previously abandoned due to lack of interest. I have great admiration for writers like this and want to thank them for a job well done.

Summary: Excellent novel by Crichton
Review: Michael Crichton is quite possibly, my favorite author.

Timeline is definitely one of the greatest books I've ever read. Michael Crichton RULES. Just check out the bibliography - this man did research. Extensive research.

I love the blend of history and science, past and present. Timeline is one of Crichton's most well crafted well sequenced novels.

I cannot recommend this book enough. 5 stars!
