Summary: This book is a MUST especially during busy or first time
Review: This book was great! I have been to Disney several times, but still found the information to be VERY useful! We didn't follow all the plans to a T, but we sure saved a lot of time by the tips this book offered. I definately think it is a must read for people either going for the first time, or traveling during peak seasons. We took our kids... and I must say, the longest line we waited in was to see Cinderella, not even a ride. We learned things we never knew, like the park actually opens earlier than it says (a half hour), and if you are in a line at closing, they will get you through the line. It gives you ideas on using the FASTPASS to most benefit you and your group. It has a lot of useful information about nearby hotels (the expensive ones are not really the best, surprise, surprise), restaurants to eat at, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios and more.

Summary: has all needed information about disneyland.
Review: This guide is verry usefull for the first time vistior to the park. However I did fine that some of the information was a bit out dated, such as the opreating hours. Some of the atteractions are now closed but remember this the guide more than likly went to press before the atterations were closed. Howere the numbers given for Disneyland is correct. In my findall review I will say the guide is helpfull.

Summary: Great book - even the locals use it!
Review: This is a great reference guide! My husband and I are Disneyland fanatics - we live about 15 minutes away and go at least every other weekend. Now that we have a five month old daughter, we have found the book to be even more invaluable (example: both Disneyland and California Adventure have these amazing baby/child care centers with changing tables, high chairs, private booths for breast feeding, facilities for warming bottles and teeny tiny potties for the little ones). However, unless you know they're there, you might never find them. Thank heavens for this book. The information regarding the best time of year to go and which rides are suitable for which ages is also invaluable. Before our daughter was born we took our four year old niece to the park a lot. The guides in the book for age ranges were much more accurate than our own judgment of what she would enjoy and what she might find scary. If nothing else, the statistics for the "Chuck Bubba relay" are worth the book's weight in gold. How else could you possible endure going on Dumbo 15 times in a row? As for information regarding ride closures, I would check out www.mouseplanet.com just before your trip - they have a weekly update of what's going on in the parks, as well as lists of ride closures and special events. Our best advice for visiting Disneyland? DON'T try to do it all in one day. If you're tired or your kids are tired, take a break. Because we often go to the parks in the late afternoon/early evening, we have seen literally hundreds of miserable families who are worn out and getting on each other's nerves by the end of the day, and this was supposed to be their "dream vacation."

Summary: Wouldn't Go To Disneyland Without It!
Review: This is the only book you'll need if you plan on making a trip to the Disneyland Resort. I have found in the past that the "Unofficial" guides give you the real lowdown and this book is no exception.

This book covers everything. It tells you the best route to take around the park to cover all the good rides in case you only have a day or too. It goes over how to handle children at Disneyland and what they'll most want to do. If even tells you how to get your kid on a ride two times in a row without waiting. It rates all the hotels in the area in terms of quality and value. In addition, it has chapters on Disney's California Adventure as well as Universal Studios.

What I like best about this book is the ride descriptions and ratings. Not only does the author rate the ride, but surveys on each ride have been done and broken down by age group. It tells you how long the ride is, what type of ride it is, how long you'll likely have to wait for the ride and the best times to ride. Not to mention a candid description of the attraction.

For anyone visiting Disneyland, this book is well worth the investment, escpecially for under $20.

Summary: This is the most useful guide
Review: We have purchased several different Disney guides for our two trips, and have found this is the most useful. Although it is quite long, it contains the most candid and detailed information about everything you need to know. It's well-indexed so you don't need to read it cover to cover if not everything is appropriate for your visit. Better than Fodor's, better than the Official Guide. The only change I would make is better coverage of Sea World, Universal and Busch Gardens; even though they are not really Disney, many people want to know more about these (Fodor's covers them better)

Summary: Very effective for getting the most out of Disneyland
Review: We only had one day on our tight vacation schedule to visit one of the Disney parks. The book helped us choose which (Disneyland Park) and helped us see the most we could. It was not a crowded day, but as such, the park hours were only 10am to 7pm so we didn't have much time. We followed the book's one day plan almost exactly, and everything was just as the book predicted it would be! We never waited in line for more than 20 minutes for anything. We knew the right times to get fastpass for rides, like Splash Mountain, where we waited about 5 minutes with our fastpass, while the line was estimated a 1.5 hours! Other rides we didn't have to use fastpass because we went at the right time and beat the lines. We also liked the ratings for age groups for individual rides, which helped us figure out what to skip and what not to miss. I have used Birnbaum's book for Disneyworld, and I found this book easier to use for making your plan of attack.

Note that it also has a chapter on Universal Studios, and I'm pretty sure Birnbaum's doesn't.

Summary: Use it every time
Review: We went at the the absolute worst time (after Christmas) and still had a good time.

Use this book to help you plan and set your own priorities. This is just a guide with information. You can easily use the information and recomendations to develope your own touring schedule.

1. Get a good nights sleep. Get a good breakfast and get to the park when it opens.

2. Do as many of the popular rides as you can.

3. Around 10-11am the rest of the people start arriving. Have lunch and relax a bit.

4. Do as many of the rest of the rides as you can.

5. Take a break mid-late afternoon. Have an early dinner.

6. Go back and revisit your favorite rides while everyone else is trying to get into the restaraunts.

7. Repeat as necessary.

We've used the current version on our last 3 Disney trips (2 California 1 Flordia) and have found it to be a great help and reference.

Summary: Very good way to prepare. Probably the best to date.
Review: We went to DLand in September of '99. We found the ride ratings useful in selecting what to take our 4-year-old on. The park restaurant information was useful too for finding the less congested eateries during lunch. We didn't adhere to the tour plans since we had about 3 days in the park and the crowds were light. The book does have hotel quality ratings and advice on selecting packages. We, however, opted for the convenience of the DPacific Hotel. The guide is just a tad dated since it doesn't include Tarzan's Treehouse (formerly the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse) and there's just a big construction mess in the parking lot for Disney's California Adventure.
