Summary: Good resource for preparing for Maui trip
Review: I would have given 5 stars for its stunning photos and valuable information about Maui. But I do find some short comings in this book. This book is extremely good if you buy it well before the trip, say at least a week. It is an excellent resource guide for planning your vacation in Maui and its pictures definitely get you in vacation mood.

But the book is quite inconvenient to use when you are actually in the trip driving around Maui looking for those hard to find beaches and waterfalls mentioned in the book. What is missing in this book is a separate map that sumarizes all the recomended places with mile marker and a simple comparison rating for various activities - snorkeling, swimming, diving etc. A pull out map similar to the 1st page in a larger scale would be nice.

Just to be fair, this book is worth over 4.5 rating and it is well worth the money.

Summary: Beautiful Beautiful Photographs
Review: If you want to feel right there and almost put your feet in the water, buy this book Driving and Discovering Hawaii. I organized my entire itinerary day by day hour by hour by referring to the oversize pages in this book. It doesn't lie when it says it's a location guide for driving. I think writer Sullivan deserves a prize.

Summary: Fabulous touring guide for Maui and Molokai
Review: Just like the Oahu edition, this Maui and Molokai driving guide can't be beat. The author shows you beautiful, full color photos of places you can visit, with detailed driving directions on how to get there. His maps will even show you the exact spot where he took the photos. The secrets of where to go to escape the crowds that visit Maui are contained in this book. If you thought you would never want to visit Molokai, this book will change your mind. The beauty of Molokai is revealed on page after page. The book enticed us to visit Molokai on our last trip to the islands, and we were not disappointed. I can only hope Richard Sullivan will write books on discovering Kauai and the Big Island in the near future.

Summary: Fantastic and Invaluable Information and Maps
Review: On a recent trip to Maui, your "Driving and Discovering Maui"
book helped me save a LOT of time and directed me to the places to get the best photography (I have been to Hawaii several times but your books eliminated a lot of "wasted" time in looking for the best shots!) I just wish there was a "Driving and Discovering Kauai" and a "Driving and Discovering Hawaii- The Big Island" Book to compliment "Oahu" and Maui..."
thanks, jeff miller

Summary: Well worth the money
Review: Prior to our vacation in Maui, I spent a lot of time researching sites, activities, restaurants and more via the internet, libraries and bookstores. I saw this book on their website and I am so very glad that I did buy this. This book was the single resource that we carried with us during our stay. It is filled with great pictures, precise descriptions and maps to every location. It breaks it down by vicinity and expounds upon the highlights of that area. I am so very glad that I had this book!

Summary: A "must have" book if you're going to Maui/Molokai
Review: Richard Sullivan has done it again! His new Maui/Molokai book is filled with breathtaking photography and informative text arranged in a format that is fun and visually appealing. Many travel books are primarily narrative with a smattering of pictures. They can be tedious to read. Not this or the Oahu book. No need to take copious notes or highlight sections because the thoughtful format does it all for you. This book is designed with the traveler in mind. Each of the two islands is systematically broken down into manageable portions. Photographs, maps, and activites corresponding to each section of the island are provided in an eye-catching format. Beach lovers will find the comprehensive guide to beaches very helpful. This writer just returned from Maui and can attest to the accuracy of the information. You truly will be doing yourself a disservice if you don't consult this book for your next trip to Maui/Molokai. Like Maui, it is "no ka oi."

Summary: Very Good, But Busy Graphics
Review: The books in this series (Maui-Molokai and Oahu) are very good, and I would recommend them to anyone. We've used them on several trips to Hawaii (usually in conjunction with other materials). What I especially like, as everyone does, is the striking photography and the suggested drives. The photos help you determine what you'd really like to see and that helps organize how you spend your time. What I don't like about the books is the visual style of the maps and charts. Though the intent is obviously that they be as clear as possible for readers, I often feel the opposite effect has been inadvertently achieved. In the presentation of these, EVERYTHING is as EMPHATIC as POSSIBLE leading to the visual equivalent of a 'din' or 'visual noise', if I can express it that way. The use of colors, symbols, and layout combine for a busy, aggressive, overly emphatic presentation in which the reader has to sort through a lot of visual clutter to synthesize the information. Ultimately the effect can be irritating. One hopes for future editions with a graphic presentation equal to the photographs. But you shouldn't let this deter you (though I would have other guides or maps to supplement).

Summary: A great book, really enhanced my visit of Maui.
Review: This book is a great place to get started in deciding how to spend your time on Maui. Detailed information on things to do all over the Island. We used this guide to help us find restaurants several times and we weren't disappointed. I bought my copy at Hilo Hattie's in Lahaina, but I would recommend getting your copy before you arrive on Maui. Two thumbs up.

Summary: Sensational Maui
