Rating: Summary: Unlike any other travel guides. Review: A chance acquisition of the Prague Eyewitness Travel Guide has made me a rabid and devoted fan of the entire series. Although many travel guides offer excellent text content in terms of descriptions and reviews (Lonely Planet comes to mind), what makes the Eyewitness series such a standout is its innovative use of (glossy, color) photographs and illustrations. The Eyewitness guides use visual displays to convey information that cannot be easily gleaned otherwise, yet is extremely helpful to the travel experience.
Here are just a few examples, from the Prague guide:
* The illustration of the Charles Bridge identifies each statue by the saint's name; information which is not completely obvious (at least not to non-Czech speakers) when you're standing in front of one.
* Cutaway illustrations of churches, museums, etc. identify rooms, sections, items, etc., making it easy to home in on areas of interest, or to identify otherwise unlabeled features.
* Photographs of the outside of the buildings of reviewed attractions.
* Photographs of paper and coin currency.
* Photographs and explanations of foods and beverages.
* My personal favorite: photographs of automatic metro ticket machines with detailed instructions on how to use them.
Don't miss these exceptional and stunningly beautiful guides.
Rating: Summary: I Love These Books Review: I have to confess up front. I love these books. I must have a dozen. I really like the Paris book, and the ones for Prague and Stockholm, and South Africa, and ...On a cold day back here in the USA (or Canada) or elsewhere, have a glass of wine and sit in a nice chair or in the garden on a warm day and read this book. For a moment you will be back in Paris or Stocholm or Prague. You are back in a small restaurant or museum. The photos and desicriptions and cutaway drawings are excellent. Plus they throw in some history and details on the art and many other things of interest. A solid 260 page effort - lots of stuff to see and absorb. Jack in Toronto
Rating: Summary: Best guide and best illustrations Review: Just returned from the Czech & Slovak Republics. Recommend this book highly for use in Prague - a delightful, friendly city full of great castles, museums, restaurants, and shopping (and hotels that need to be air-conditioned). This book has good details, pictures, maps. Very helpful! Phrase section was all that was needed, so don't buy an extra phrase book.

Rating: Summary: Superb guide! Review: Prague is one of the most underrated gems in Europe and this guide goes a long way in correcting this. This is a surprisingly effective and well-organized guide, with some interesting photos. If you're planning on spending just a few days in Prague, then this compact little book will be indispensible in locating the famous streets and tourist sights. The maps are more than adequate and the walking descriptions to each locale are precise and accurate. There is also corresponding material on how to use the underground in the city and which station to take for each particular site. There is a separate chapter on the churches of the city with a brief ranking system for the nosiest places, the friendliest, the cheapest food, etc. If you're planning a lengthy sojourn in Prague or if you already know the city well, then this book would not be as helpful. It is basically intended for the casual tourist and there is little, if any, information on the intriguing environs of the city. Many of the best sites are neglected because most tourists don't want to bother or simply don't have the time to stick around. Still, this is a thrifty guide you can stick in your pocket and consult when you need to find a restaurant, beer haunt or hotel. In short, if you're a first timer to Prague, enjoy one of the greatest cities in Europe and be sure to tuck away this nifty little guide.
Rating: Summary: Great coverage of central Prague Review: The sights of Prague's city centre are listed and described with the aid of photos in this beautiful book. The coverage of the city centre is comprehensive, but slightly weaker when talking about Prague's suburbs and the surrounding countryside. Well worth your money!
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and Fabulous for Prague Review: This book blew my mind. Before departing, it helped excite me about the people, history and art of the Czech Republic. Upon arrival, it served as the most perfect guide to Prague. From exquisite must-do walks to the breakdown and illustration of statues along the Charles Bridge, it covered everything worth seeing in Prague. Because of the precise maps and excellent directions, my friends and I were able to cover historic Prague in 4 days, visiting every site that we wanted to because we had such an excellent device for orienting ourselves. I would highly recommend this book to any traveler who loves to understand the history and artistic intricacies of a region. I plan to buy Eyewitness Travel Guides for all my future adventures.
Rating: Summary: Best guide and best illustrations Review: This is one of the best Guide I've ever used. It has many illustrations and tips. It provides you with a historical background of Prague. It helps in guiding your tours as it has descriptions + addresses of all monuments, restaurants, shops, ... It has also street's map,... There are many illuastrations in this book that you'll certainly need to label taken photos. It offers you a virtual tour of the city showing its best attractions.
