Review: This book is a fabulous tavel tool. It is very easy to read and communicates to the average middle class traveler such as myself. We even found this book in Hotel rooms. Everyone of the recommedations we followed were right on the mark. I also have Frommers Hawaii and Fodors Hawaii, and neither of them compare. Where these other books were useful, this one really spoke to me. It is very light, fun and matter of fact.They don't mess around and they give you what you need to make your trip a wonderful experience. There are some terrific things in Kauai that I would have missed had it not been for this delightful book. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Great Book - Very Tongue & Cheek Humor Too
Review: I recently returned from 2 weeks on the Garden Island and we used this book extensively. The humor and the "local" flair made it a great guidebook. It really told you what was worth your time and what wasn't, while also providing some good humor. The only thing I didn't agree with was the fascination with "Shave Ice". They had a whole section on it and made it sound like it was the greatest invention since sliced bread. At their recommendation, we tried some, but were very disappointed. It's just another fancy name for a snow cone, and overpriced. Stick to Lappert's Ice Cream. I highly recommend this book for either the new or returning (which we were) visitor to Kauai.

Review: This guidebook was recommended to us by the conceirge at our hotel -- and, it MADE the trip. Wonderful descriptions & bits of history, and, a great way to help us determine what not to miss! One of the "do-not-miss" spots has to be Queen's Bath . . . something we would have never experienced without this book! Thank you to the authors for helping us truly experience Kaua'i . . . we can NOT wait to return to the island!

Review: Our honeymoon on Kauai would not have been so complete, if not for this incredible guidebook. I have read lots of guidebooks and none other makes you feel like you have lived on Kauai, your whole life. We visited places the average tourists will never find. Going there? A must have book!

Review: This is truly the best guidebook for Kaua'i!! We took it everywhere with us and found the maps to be very accurate and easy to read. All of the reviews of restaurants and activities were right on the money. We were travelling with an infant and really appreciated the breakdown of activities and adventures sections. I strongly urge anyone travelling to the island to bring this guidebook with them!!!! It is indispensable!!!

We were able to scheduled our days and utilized all of our time to see as much of this beautiful island as possible. The food guide also proved to be helpful as we were on a budget. This book is a must if you are traveling to Kauai.

Summary: the best of the guidebooks available
Review: We who live here on Kauai are perhaps the best judges of guidebooks because we are constantly having visitors who want to know all sorts of things about the island. We review all of the guides as they come out so we can hand the most thorough to our visitors and not have to repeat ourselves a thousand times. Briefly, the series by the Donohughs was superb but they stopped after Hurricane Iniki. At that time we met the authors of the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook while they were researching their first edition, which was a little shaky, but they kept researching and from the second edition on have the best guidebook on Kauai available. The worst guidebook for Kauai is a tie between: y)Lenore Horowitz who comes here two weeks a year and subscribes at home to the Island paper, and z)the one by Christie Stilson who has never been to Kauai as far as anyone here knows but has Dona Early drop over from Maui from time to time. Avoid these two. The rest of the guidebooks at your local store or at amazon.com are somewhere in the middle.
