Summary: what's going to destroy Hawaii?
Review: Which naturalist was it said, "I love the mountains, that's why I never go there..." ? Well Doughty and Friedman may have found a fun way to fund their fun, but publishing a book enticing more people to rent cars in a place where cars ought to be restricted, and visit places that can't support a great deal of visitation is irresponsible. They love Kaui? Then they ought to stay away from it and not encourage hundreds of thousands of others to go to places with an ecology that can't support their tourism.

Review: We took our family of 5 to Kawai for a week this summer and used this book as the final word on everything we wanted to do. In one instance we were looking for a place to eat on our way home from the north shore and stopped in front of a promising restaurant. Before going in, we checked the guide and found it to be mediocre and expensive. Because of the previous experiences in following the guide we found another place to eat and counted ourselves lucky to have avoided the place. We expecially enjoyed the shaved ice reviews and tried several for ourselves! Wonderful! This is worth double the price and we are recommending it to friends and family traveling there.

Review: This book allowed us to take full advantage of the island. The honest and frank descriptions of what the island has to offer helped us plan our vacation and our days. We only wish they had them for all of the islands!! The Big Island book was published just after we visited. Make this part of your luggage for sure, and read it on the plane for a sneak peak of the incredible journey to come!!!

Summary: The only Guidebook you need for Kauai - Concise and Accurate
Review: This book is fantastic! Andrew and Harriet provide local insight and direct the reader to the BEST spots on Kauai. There are no pulled punches. If a place is a dump, they say so. If it is overpriced, they say so. You won't find "cookie cutter" reviews here. The maps and mile markers shown on the maps are extremely accurate and helpful. Restaraunt reviews are right on. If you want the "standard" tour guide type of book, look elsewhere. If you want to see the Kauai most of the tourists miss, GET THIS BOOK! If you are going to the Big Island of Hawaii, they have another book for that island - get it too!

Review: We bought 2 guidebooks for Kauai. This was the best by far, we used it daily and referred to it often as we were seeing the sights in Kauai. This book went with us everyday we were in Kauai. It was well-organized and very informative and accurate. The driving directions were very detailed and very accurate. We would never have seen as much as we did if it were not for this book. We referred to it every day. Buy this book if you are planning a trip to Kauai...I wouldn't go without it!

Review: My husband and I recently celebrated our Honeymoon in Kauai. We found "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" to be one of our best purchases made for our travels in Kauai! This book is organized so that one can read about all of the activities to visit in a particular area of the island. There is also a separate section of activities for the more adventurous. With regard to the maps, we found that the inclusion of mile markers in addition to the area highlights made these maps more valuable to our trip than any others we had. Incredible colorful photos added to the book's appeal. We would highly recommend this book to anyone traveling to Kauai.
