Summary: This book is excellent and very informative.
Review: A must have if you are going to visit Las Vegas. The comprehensive list at the end of the book makes it easy to look at each hotel and decide where you would like to stay. I might include a map of Vegas that can be removed from the book.

Summary: Fair-to-Good
Review: As an overview, the book is solid. However, the book does not supply enough detail on each hotel. The book states words to the effect that describing each lobby is redundant. I wanted to read detail about each lobby, each pool area, each casino and accommodations. I didn't get that in the Unofficial Guide.

Summary: Nice book, good ideas, but often out of date...
Review: I agree with another reviewer in that the book is not updated as much as it should be. A prime example: while browsing through the 2003 edition I noticed that the authors had a disconnect over the "New York skyline" in the atrium of the Luxor Hotel & Casino. This New York skyline, while rather a disconnect to many when Luxor first opened was redone in a Cairo theme years ago when NYNY Hotel opened up the Strip a bit! It's been several years, but it hasn't been updated. While obviously not a HUGE deal, it still is an example of the lack of attention to details I've noticed in this series.

Summary: The 2001 doesn't mean that it's really up to date
Review: I bought this book for a trip to Las Vegas in April, hoping to read comprehensive information on the Aladdin hotel, where I'll be staying. Since the book says "2001" right in the title, I assumed it would have full information on the hotel and shops and restaurant and casino that opened in 2000. Unfortunately, I was disappointed since it has only a brief paragraph with no specific information on any of the amenities, restaurants, etc. The book is otherwise helpful with basic information about Las Vegas, and information on restaurants in general is good, but no better than the information I already had from the Gayot book.

Summary: Great book for Vegas
Review: I buy a current copy of this book each time I go to Las Vegas

Summary: Year after year, Mr. Sehlinger gets it right!
Review: I have been buying Bob Sehlinger's "Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas" each year it comes out. I am a seasoned Las Vegas tourist, having been there 20 plus times and let me tell you that he and his staff of writers are always on target. This book is a must for anyone who is going for the first time. Much more friendly and in depth than Fodor's or Frommer's releases, it is written to be, well, readable. You may be asking yourself why I need to keep buying his book year after year if I have gone to Las Vegas so many times. Well, the best answer I have is that the chronological coverage he gives to this dynamic destination is top-notch. I am able to keep abreast of the latest developments and prices within the city. The review for a specific hotel, restaurant, or casino may change from year to year. Anyway, pick one up. You won't be dissapointed.

Summary: Thorough Guide for the Tourist or Business Traveler
Review: I have been to Vegas only once in my life for a conference and now I am going back as a tourist I loved it so much. This book is good for either the tourist or the business traveler...very effective and detailed compared to many other Travel Guide books for Las Vegas. Very informative and insightful...It's a strong essential to have from the planning of your business trip or vacation to the time you are in Las Vegas!

Summary: SMOKIN' BOOK!
Review: I have bought more than a few books on Vegas, but this one is, by far, the best! This guy is a no-nonsense dude who writes in a straightforward and ACCURATE manner. If you ain't ever been to Gamblin' Mecca, and want to know where to stay and not get ripped off and have an absolute BLAST on a budget - GET THIS BOOK!

Summary: Comprehensive and well researched
Review: I loved the thorough ratings of hotels that made it very clear how each compared. I also got a great deal of help from the section on Blackjack strategy.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Disappointed
Review: I recently took a trip to Vegas and while I had a great time, two important pieces of research that I had used the book for were wrong. While I understand (and is echo'ed in the books text) that sampling error of rooms and shows means that you don't always experience what the reviewers experience, I am still disappointed in the purchase.

Item 1 was the choice of hotels. I had researched what was available at my price, and had settled on the MGM Grand. This was a bad choice, the rooms were small and sparsely equipped. I have previously stayed at Circus, circus and found it many times better and much cheaper. The buffet is overpriced and certainly of no better quality. Waitress service during gambling is almost non-existent. Two hours - two drinks. Lastly the monorail is not open (and won't be until 2004). Given this was the 2003 guide, this should be included in the info. Again the adive should be 'stay in the middle of the strip' you are going to do a lot of walking...

Item 2 was the shows. We went to see Lance Burton, rated as you get 'exactly what you pay for', I disagree. Too many of his tricks are the same and it was not nearly worth the money paid. Better to take in Excalibur's Tournament of Kings - amazing value and more spectacle.
