Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Hi, I am working at ILISA Language Institute in Costa Rica, San Jose and I just want to say that this book helps our student a lot by giving them helpful tips or by arrange their own travel in Costa Rica. Thanks!
Rating: Summary: The content was great; I dropped a star for the editing. Review: I breezed through the book in an afternoon/evening and found it to be extremely informative and accurate based on my limited ten day stay in Costa Rica. The author presents both sides for those considering relocating to CR. It is a wonderful place to visit which motivated me to inquire what it might be like to live there.
Rating: Summary: The New Golden Door To Retirement Living in Costa Rica Review: I found this book to be of tremendous help, we are thinking of retiring in Costa Rica, and Christopher Howard has written about everything you can possibly want to know and where to find it. Excellent reading, am more excited about going to Costa Rica now than I was before I read this book. This book is written honestly and without judgement, it tells ALL about Costa Rica, its people, crime, markets, bankings, driving, walking, safety, etc. I can't think of a single question that was not already answered in this book.
Rating: Summary: A Big Help! Review: I have been living in Costa Rica for over a year. Before moving here I read all of the guides about living and investing. "The New Golden Door" is by far the best of the bunch. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live here. It is a real godsend and has helped me out of countless jams.
Rating: Summary: Recent Review is Incorrect Review: I just read a review by John McAndrew of this book. I have lived in Costa Rica for five years and continue to use "The New Golden Door" as a constant reference source. In Mr. McAndrews'review he alludes to the fact that he spends time in Monte Verde. Monte Verde is a beautiful place but not suited for living since it rains a lot and there is no infrastructure.Mr. Howard continually refers to the Central Valley and San Jose because ALL of the major services and infrastructure are found there. It also appears that Mr. McAndrew does not live in Costa Rica on a full-time basis. Furthermore, he complains about the ads in Mr. Howards book. I have personally used many of the services listed in the ads and have found them to be excellent. The fact that Mr. Howard has honest advertisers is a real plus. I would have never found out about these services if I hadn't read this book. If Mr.McAndrew thinks Mr. Howard's book looks like a magazine because of the ads, he should check out the Tico Times' annual guidebook. The latter is filled with ads and DOES resemble a magazine. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Howard and asked him about the typos in his book. He said that he was the victim of a bad proofreader. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Mr. Howard's complete guide to anyone interested in living or investing in Costa Rica.

Rating: Summary: I Want the Author's Autograph! Review: I just read this book and hope to meet the author someday, so he can sign it! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a typical Autograph Hunter, since I work in Corporate Aviation. Thanks to the owner of the airplane and circle of friends, we fly the likes of Don Heneley, Ann Richards, etc. around. NEVER have I asked any of these celebrities to sign anything, the author of this book will be my FIRST!
Rating: Summary: This book is worth its weight in gold. Review: I just want to tell you how much I APPRECIATED reading the best-selling "New Golden Door to Retirement and Living in Costa Rica" which I purchased from Amazon.com. It was just what I had been looking for. I have been very familiar with Costa Rica for many years since I was a young man living there as a missionary. I married a Costa Rican woman 29 years ago and am very happy. We are planning to retire to Costa Rica in the next few years. Anyway I just wanted to let others know that this guide is WORTH every cent I paid for it and was very HELPFUL.

Rating: Summary: This book is spot-on! Review: I now live and work in Costa Rica (not quite retired, I'm 26) and this book was a huge part in how I made the decision to come here, the business I started and the moves I've made in setting up my life in Costa Rica. The author really knows the down and dirty details and spares the reader nothing in this book whether good, bad or ugly. Even though I've been in Costa Rica for 3 years, I continue to read each new edition as each one surpasses the previous in information and insights.
