Summary: Don't waste your money on this
Review: If you have never been to Walt Disney World this book wound talk you out of it. in a heart beat. This is a book written by someone who either is not a kid at heart or never was a kid. Disney is a great place that I visit almost every year and have a great time. By reading this book you would think it's all long lines and yelling kids. Please don't waste your money on this book.

Summary: The Best Guide that I've Found
Review: My family is planning a June 2002 trip to Disney; we last visited in March, 2001...

I bought 2 new books for this trip... The Irreverent Guide [...] and the Unoffical Guide by Bob Sehlinger [...]. [...] the Unofficial Guide offers a whopping 524 more pages (768 vs. 244) and a much higher quality of content.

Both books offer the same "take" on WDW... An impartial, tell it like it is account of the happiest place on earth. The Unofficial Guide not only offers it's opinion, but almost always also offers reader comments about the various attractions/resorts/restuarants. The Unoffical Guide is also organized MUCH more efficiently, and it is very easy to go back and find information even without using the index. It rates every attraction from 6 different perspectives (the author's, preschool kids, preteens, teens, Over 30's, and Seniors). It also offers very detailed touring plans which can be a great help to people who haven't been to WDW in the past.

If I have one complaint about the Unofficial Guide, it's a complaint that I have with all of the guides... Even though it has 2002 on the cover, it really only covers WDW through June 2001 at best, and Disney can change radically in that gap of time.

In addition to the Irreverent Guide, I have previously purchased Birnbaum's Guide and Wiley's Disney with Kids. If I had to pick only one guide, I wouldn't hesitate to choose the Unofficial Guide. It offers great bang for the buck, multiple perspectives, and loads of common sense advice.

Summary: The Best Disney World Book!
Review: I had been to Walt Disney World twice before I found this book so I can tell you first hand what a differnce this book makes in trip planning and in making your day at WDWthe most complete. The book covers every ride and attraction atWDW and the other DW parks in detail. It has great information on the local hotels. It has goobs of information on going to WDW with kids of all ages. If you are not experienced at doing WDW, then get this book. Because of the informaaion in this book you'll be able to see and do twice as much especially on busy days at the park. 5 stars at least!

Summary: The Disney Commando's Bible
Review: Those of us who are Disney veterans occasionally have discussions about which is the most helpful guidebook, this book or the Birnbaum Guide (which is semi-endorsed by WDW and thus, say its detractors, doesn't present an accurate picture). While the Unofficial Guide is literally twice the length of the Birnbaum Guide and does present good feedback from Disney vacationers, I've always felt that it takes the fun out of the WDW experience by its concentration on getting on the rides.

Anyone who has been to any of the WDW parks has seen what have been nicknamed "Disney Commandos." These are the people (usually harried parents with small whiny children) who charge through a park like they're on a mission from God to get on every single attraction in the course of a day. The Unofficial Guide does lay out some good game plans for the Commandos, so if your goal is to get on Tower of Terror three times in a day, this is a good book. It also reviews every full service restaurant in WDW, but the reviews smack a little bit of the author's personal tastes. There's also a decent section about visiting the Orlando area, including Universal Studios and Sea World.

The Unofficial Guide does go into a lot of depth, and if you're tackling WDW for the first time you won't go wrong in buying either this book or the Birnbaum book--heck, buy both of them. WDW is not a place like Six Flags where you can just show up. It covers an area the size of San Francisco, so any and all planning you do will help you immensely, particularly if you have kids.

Summary: Don't Go to Disney Without It!
Review: If you are planning on doing the "Disney thing," you know that you are going to spend a large chunk of change. So why not get the most for your money? This guide will help you to do so.

My wife and I consulted this guide before a recent trip to Orlando, and I am glad we did. The authors give you an honest appraisal of everything Disney; rides, restaurants, lodging, etc.I appreciate the fact that this book is an "un-official" guide; the authors are not "shilling" for Disney.

This book is a valuable reference whether you are a first-timer, or you have been to the Magic Kingdom before.

Summary: Read it BEFORE you go!
Review: This book unquestionably made the difference for me between a fun, magical, satisfying, restful vacation, and a living hell. You really need to read at least the first sections, before it gets on to the actual parks, well before you go (or even book), because this will help you get into the right frame of mind to approach a Disneyworld Vacation. The book pulls no punches, with a warts-and-all description of everything good and bad about Disney, but always with a reverent and light-hearted style. For me, travelling at Spring Break with three small kids, this book absolutely made my vacation.

Summary: Valuable info for the over-55 crowd
Review: Do I love Disney World? Yes, and I love this book that understands it so well. Living in Florida, we have many visitors who want us to "take them to Disney." This amazingly comprehensive book gives me all the information I need to plan successful trips for any mix of ages and interests. Although it is a valuable guide for first time visitors, I believe it is a must-read for "returnees" and those who want to be knowledgeable hosts for loved ones who are spending big bucks and arriving at the parks with high hopes. I was able to compare my earlier decisions and my own assessments with the ratings and reviews in the book and understand where I could have made much better choices and why. In recalling my last trip to Disney with its numerous sightings of screaming, unhappy, tired wee ones, I plead that every parent of young children read this book before attempting to navigate the parks. Believe me, I plan to heed its detailed advice when my own grandchildren come to visit. As part of the over-55, young-in-spirit crowd, I now better understand how I can spend a long day at a park without leaving in pain. I also realize that I bypassed attractions that I thought might not be suitable for my "age group." Tower of Terror, here I come!

Summary: Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World by Bob Sehlinger
Review: Bob Sehlinger does an excellent job of creating a travel guide for Walt Disney World. The book is non-biased, tells it like it is and provided very helpful information for traveling to Disney World. He covers just about every facet of travel you could think of. I have looked at several travel guides for Disney World and this book is not just an expensive advertisement for Disney World. It is a first timers best friend. If you can only get one guide, this is the book to get. Bob gets an A+ for this book!

Summary: The best WDW planning book on the market
Review: Got this book to help plan our upcoming WDW vacation. I was simply astounded by the amount of information in it. Absolutely EVERYTHING is reviewed & discussed (even Universal Studios!) and no punches are pulled. If something is sub-par, they'll tell you. I would recommend this book to anyone planning a trip - in fact, make sure you buy it before you book ANYTHING! You'll be VERY thankful!

Summary: ok but could be better
Review: i bought this book along with rita aeros book and i dont think this book helped me that much in planning my vacation. in the book anything thats cheap is rated bad. and anything high priced is rated good. there are a few good things in the book. but the description of the resteraunts and the hotels are not very informative and in some cases there nothing more then 2 sentences or so to describe something that can not be described in that short of space. for instance the review for the sci-fi cafe says this "you sit in little cars in a large building where it is always night and watch vintage film clips on a drive in movie screen as you eat." now in another guide it gives this great description. "the wating area for guests at the sci-fi dine in theatre restaurant resembles the back of a typical movie set, with exposed wall studs and bolts. guests enter the large dining area through what looks like a movie ticket booth and are seated at tables resembling miniature 1950's style convertables. its always evening at the sci fi dine in restaurant with make believe stars glistening in the sky against a moonlit hollywood hills mural. cartoons and clips from campy sci-fi films play continuosly on the giant movie screen; soudn is piped through drive in speakers mounted on each car. all of the cars and most of the seats face foward. the restaurants drive in style kitchen is located in the back of the fenced in theatre, where servers dressed as carhops pick up the food and deliver it to the cars." now you tell me which is better? and its the same with the hotels and other things as well. hey if i have never been and i had these 2 guides which am i going to read of course not this one. although to be fare i have read it and stil dont like it. proboly the only feature that is worthwhile is the ideas of the public who have written in and tell thier ideas of the events. so all in all it is not worth the cover price and i would go look at rita aeros book or several others out there that are much better
