Summary: Should Be The "Official Guide" - Don't Go Without This Book!
Review: It's that good!

This is the ultimate guide to Disney without a doubt. If you have kids, are traveling solo, as a couple, or with anyone who has special needs, regardless of your age, this book covers the whole shebang.

It contains a tip for EVERY aspect of the Disney experience AND for every contingency. One of my favorite tips for preventing your stroller from being stolen (hint, tie a clear plastic bag onto to the stroller with a root beer-stained diaper in it -- guaranteed no one will go near it! More like this in Part Five - Traveling with Kids).

My favorite part was the rating system on all the attractions: Included are the name of the attraction, exactly what it is (water ride, outdoor walking exhibit, song and dance show, etc.), the scope of the ride (minor vs. major attraction), best time to go, author's rating and most importantly -- how the ride appeals to certain age groups. There are also interviews and surveys with patrons who have visited this particular ride.

Laced with humor and very comprehensive... I felt familiar with the entire experience before my family even experienced it!

I wish I could give it 10+ stars.

Enjoy Disney with this as your guide.

Summary: Don't Leave Home Without It!
Review: Dont't let the book scare you. You don't have to read it cover to cover. (My wife does, and we usually find ourselves laughing over the humor that is woven into the various chapters.) Simply use this book as a resource for the points of interest you are planning to visit. This book not only saved us money, it saved us time and much aggrivation. We have been to Disney three times and are planning our fourth trip. Things are always changing at Disney, and this book will help you through any part of the Disney experience you wish to immerse yourself in. This is a must read!!

Summary: Great Book, Bad Pictures!
Review: This book is a great book! It has all the information you need to go to Disney World. If you're not sure which book to get, get this one. There wasn't one question that wasn't answered in this book and was so appy that I found it before I went to Disney World. I'll tell you one thing-the book made the trip a hell of a lot easier

Summary: Great Guide!
Review: This book is large, but well worth the read. It's concise, detailed, and complete. Unbiased, as well, but not overly critical. A must for the compulsive organizer trying to see Disney without exhausting yourself and your family!

Summary: Maybe!
Review: Firstly, I'd like to say that I've spent around 28 days in Disney in the past 8 years or so, and three weeks of that last summer. Therefore, I feel that I know the "world" better than most people.

Personally, I'd give it a one. However, the reason I gave it a three: If you're interested in going to Disney like any other theme park, with a goal of finishing every ride, etc, I would give the book 5 stars.

However, if you are addicted to Disney music, practically are growing ears, etc, my review is slightly different. Before my big three week trip, I read sections, totally disregarding the reviews. I learned the layouts of the parks better than my hometown, and knew approximatly what type of things each ride were. Unlike Sehlinger, I didn't go for gourmet food- I ate hotdogs in the Magic Kingdom quite often. This reading, however, really helped me. I didn't waste time puzzling over park maps. I brought decent shoes (a MUST.)

HOWEVER, if you're a Disney Nut, consider whether you are a theme park commando, beelining to the coasters, or you're there for the Disney. I explored the parks, and found shortcuts, people-free areas, air conditioned rest spots, and deserted characters. Yes, I rode each ride multiple times. However, the rides ARE a large part, but not all there is.

Summary: Great guide
Review: I just returned from WDW, and this book was great. The tips, restaurant reviews, and the tour guides were great. Just read this book thoroughly before you leave. My husband had some time to kill and read some great tips about the FastPass that I missed. We tried just one tour guide, for the Animal Kingdom (the only park that we hadn't seen before this trip), and it was great. We missed all of the lines and saw so many things. Just make sure you budget some rest time between tour guides! The only part that might have been lacking was the details on the Disney resorts. I've seen other books (such as Walt Disney World for Couples by Rick Perlmutter, Gayle Perlmutter) that give more detailed info on resorts. But this is a thick book packed with info!

Summary: I studied it like a madman!
Review: Disney devotees can be very defensive when faced with criticism of Walt Disney World, but Bob Sehlinger doesn't care. He pulls no punches, and presents an honest assessment of everything in Disney World, from hotels to restaurants to attractions. We bought this book about a week before our first family trip to Disney (December 2000), and I studied it like a madman! When we arrived, we found that all the preparation really paid off. We did everything we wanted to do while at WDW with time to spare, and with very little frustration. Since we have a young child, we found the ratings of each ride broken down by age group to be particularly helpful. Although the touring plans can sound like marching orders, we found them to work quite nicely when put in action. Many of the tips we found in this book we saw nowhere else.

We would never think about visiting Disney again without this book. With the increasingly high prices that Disney charges, this book will help you go prepared to get the most for your money.

Summary: Required Reading
Review: This book should be required for anyone who is planning a trip to Disney World.

I remember taking a trip back in the late 80's when I was a kid and my dad using this book. We teased him the entire time about his "agendas and lists". Well, I went back on my honeymoon last year and my husband made fun of me because of my agendas and lists. However, he thanked me as well.

This book is obviously compiled by people who know what they are talking about. They have been to Disney enough to know where to go and when to go. The ratings are great and I have found them to be right on. They provide excellent information on the hotels, restaraunts, rides, entertainment, spending money and just about everything else that Disney has to offer. The amount of time you save as a result of studying this book is amazing. You learn how to avoid bottlenecking lines, boring rides and terrible food.

Lets face it. Disney is a wonderful place to go but if you aren't prepared it can make for a miserable trip. This book really prepares you. Not to mention when I planned my honeymoon I followed some of their money saving tips and saved a bundled (relatively speaking...Disney isn't cheap regardless of what you save.)

Buy this book at least 6 months before you leave for your vacation. I buy the latest edition for each year that I go. I went in 1998, 1999 and coming up in 2001. I own a copy for each year. It may sound crazy and even though a lot of the information is the same as the previous edition they add just enough new stuff to make it worth the purchase. The book is very objective (they even include letters of complaints that they have received) and it is also very thorough. You can plan a trip regardless of your traveling situation (kids, elderly, couples, grumpy, or handicapped). You don't have to follow the book word for word but it gives you a guideline to plan your days and tailor it to your needs.

Anyway, I have been to Disney World 4 times and planning my 5th trip with some friends for next month and I wouldn't go unless I had this book by my side. I know that they will make fun of my for my lists and agendas but I also know that they will thank me.

Summary: DON"T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!
Review: A few years ago I bought the then current issue of "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World". It made our trip to the Magic Kingdom truly magical!! We went on fabulous rides we might have ignored thinking they sounded too babyish. We found out tips which helped us save time and we ate at some great restaurants. Without the book we would have missed out on a lot of great attractions and wasted our time on others. I can't say enough about the value of this book!!!
