Summary: Well Earned 5 Stars
Review: My personal favorite for exploring Maui is this guidebook. Format is what sold me initially. The maps were big and clean and most of the hikes were previewed with photos so I knew what I was getting myself into. Traffic on Maui was heavy and knowing and anticipating the turnoff was key to avoiding an accident.

But it wasn't until I started using it that I realized its real value. It doubled as my snorkeling guide and again, never failed with its clearly written directions. You'd never find some these places on your own. If you don't want to spend your vacation forking out dollars on packaged tours, get this book.

Summary: The Lowdown
Review: My wife and I did our homework before we left for Molokai and Maui. This book answered all our needs before and during our trip. We put it to work for two weeks and every day it delivered good solid suggestions for hikes as well as dives. Their directions were truly spot on. Because it was so highly organized and complete the days in this tropical paradise melted away.

We explored all three islands on foot on our own time and at our own pace and have nothing but praise for these pros who did all the research for us.

Summary: From a big fan
Review: Our local library featured this book in its monthly newsletter. I borrowed it, planned our entire seven day visit and bought a fresh copy for the journey. I thought it was primarily for hikers but was pleasantly surprised to find that it introduced us to so many other things to do that are uniquely MAUI. We learned to surf and spent endless hours boogie boarding at hidden away little beaches that they recommended. This is an all around book for all levels of expertise. The clean graphics and maps were a joy to use. Everything you'll ever need or want to know is in this book. Grab a copy for your trip. It can't get any better.

Summary: Maui's Best
Review: Our short Hawaiian vacation consisted of 3 days of business meetings on Oahu and three playing on Maui. The two islands contrasted greatly. Thankfully, this book offered us an entire new perspective of island life and guided us to some wild stretches of beach that were definitely off the beaten path. Loaded with photos so we knew what to expect and great maps that quickly got us to snorkeling areas where the water was clean and clear. We recommend this book, it deserves five stars.

Summary: Maui Naturally
Review: Remarkable! This is a really good guide book that fills in all the blanks all the others leave out . This was my fifth trip to Maui and I stayed three weeks this time.

I liked this book because it doesn't glorify or exaggerate Maui, it just tells you honestly how it is and what to expect .
It loaded me up with a steady stream of choices. Whatever I hankered for, it was easy to find, whether in the water or in the outback. All the trails were rated according to their highlights. I knew what I was getting into. There's also a really nice balance of photos and text. I could go on and on with compliments. It captures this island in a nutshell.

Summary: THE BEST OF THEM ALL
Review: This book has been a wonderful eye-opener for me. I suppose like many people, I was inclined to think that "outdoors" on Maui meant "on the beach." Then I found Maui Trailblazer. The subtitle is "where to hike, snorkel, paddle, surf, drive," and even that's an understatement.

Before I got two paragraphs into the introduction, I found myself feeling better about Maui and more eager to get out and see it...all of it. The writing is gently conversational and downright seductive. My advice, no matter how you want to see Maui, no matter how well you already know the island, read Maui Trailblazer. It's actually a love story with a fine beginning, plenty of middle and no end in sight.

Summary: quality guide
Review: We found this trailblazer guide extremely helpful for finding our way around Maui. The way the authors grouped everything together simplified our outings and cut our petrol expenses in half. We were led to an amazing heiau and botanical garden on a point near Hana that other guidebooks simply don't mention. Our time was well spent and our vacation dollars went far considering all the miles we flew to get there.

Summary: YES
Review: We just returned from touring Maui and Kauai islands. We brought along Maui Trailblazer and Kauai Trailblazer after researching all the available books on the subject because they had more hikes and more photographs.

On Maui we stationed ourselves out in Hana for the first week where we found plenty to do within the vicinity of Wainapanapa State Park. There was a logical flow from chapter to chapter and we didn't have to backtrack. Both of us liked the clean presentation. It's well thought out and very well written. All the hikes include a "Best For" paragraph and How To Get There, the hike's distance, the history, trail features, plants you'll see and if there's a place to snorkel they tell you how to find it. Maps preface every section so there's no guessing where you are. It was easy to get turned around there especially in the jungly areas.

If you're going to Maui to ramble the coast or the backcountry we strongly advise this tightly packed handy book.

Summary: strongly recommend
Review: With all the diverse interests of our family, Maui Trailblazer suited us well. The trail instructions were easy to follow and gave us plenty of options. It introduced us to Molokai where we stayed for two nights. The beaches were surprisingly empty there. I recommend it to anyone who likes to day hike.
