Rating: Summary: New York as Sexual Jesus Review: I am a Speedologist. Speed says: America is a miracle to lazy to be miraculous. I couldn't agree more. He also says: "Every time a New Yorker has a self conscious moment, a pigeon is born." He also says: "Life is an involuntary orgy." What else? Read it. New York is just like Amerika to Kafka in this amazing bible of Cruise and antiCruise. I bet Speed becomes known as this time's Ginsburg. He is like the best philosopher I ever understood--no a philosopher is boring, Speed is like a life soul adjuster. This is a book that you will cherish. Every page is a work of art. It will chage your life and if your mother reads it she will start wearingfurry animal costumes to work. Honest Abe, this is the real thing--100% pure spasmodic whoopie of the mind and soul with a city standing in as some sort of mighty Aphrodite or ether and ya-ya wee! I love Speed!!!
Rating: Summary: A true journey of the mind and the streets of NY Review: I have had the pleasure of crusing with Speed in New York last year and I bought my copy from him. (Sorry AMAZON) He is an artist. Of what, I don't really know, but that's the beauty of Speed. Time with him on our cruise is genuine, funny, endearing, educational and most of all precious. His book Speedology, is not just a tour guide, it is this psychatrist/poet's interpretaion of New York and it's many layers itself. A note to Speed: Coming out this summer. Hope to catch up with you again.Cavaliere
Rating: Summary: brilliant Review: The words literally jump off the page, attacking your psyche and opinions, demanding you to think and rethink everything you've ever thought. Speed challenges you with every word to redefine your very existence and to live joyously. "materialism is the utilization of the fear of other people's opinions" The world is a joyful place, take part! stop reading this! go out and live!

Rating: Summary: Lots of Fun Review: This book is lots of fun. Chock full one great one-liners and thoughtful analysis. It points out beauty and absurdity in what most regard as banal. As a native new yorker it was really cool to read a new perspective on The City. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: see "The Cruise" too Review: This book is written by the genuinely brilliant, misfit friend you grew up with and hung out with, and in adulthood are a little bit freaked out by. Maybe he gets weirder every year, and it's not always pretty, but you still want to hang out with him, because you feel more real around him than you do around anyone else...

Rating: Summary: they broke the mold Review: Timothy "Speed" Levitch is a beautiful beautiful person. He is vividly expressing his individuality in a climate of widespread conformity. His "tour" of New York City is designed to evoke emotions and cultivate unique, personal experience. He believes in people (i.e. "You are a better party than you have ever been to") and he is committed to helping us all be fully expressed in our lives. I first discovered Speed Levitch in his movie "The Cruise" which I watch at least once a month ... He also gives voice-over to an animated version of himself in the film "Waking Life." It's helpful to see one of these movies first so you can hear his voice reading the book to you with all of his quirky intonations and gesticulations. His love for life is contagious. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
