Summary: Camp cooking at its best
Review: I've looked at a lot of Dutch oven cookbooks, and this is the best one yet. It includes recipes, information and ideas I've not seen anywhere else. I especially liked that Ms. Mills includes directions for conventional oven use. While some of the recipes may be more complicated than some camp cooks want to tackle, there is something for everyone here.
I've tried several of the recipes and featured one, Witches' Brew, in my recipe column. Well worth the money.I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to elevate their camp cooking (or home cooking!) from hamburgers and a can of beans to a meal to remember.

Summary: Great recipes! Eco-preachy tho, cooking with the green ranger
Review: Fantastic recipies it this book! A little short on instruction for the beginner and a bit long on environmental lectures. Great book for liberal Democrats that don't think protecting the wild applies to them. Broad range of culinary styles. Well written and worthwhile.

Summary: Great for home cooking!
Review: I am not necessarily interested in cooking outdoors but some friends said this book was full of easy, wonderful recipes. I bought it and use it all the time with great success. Now I am thinking of getting a dutch oven! I highly recommend it.

Review: I found a couple of things in book I really liked but I have found a book that I like alot better.
It is a book by Dian Thomas and it is called Backyard Roughing It Easy.

Summary: Great book for a rookie!
Review: I just bought a Dutch oven and this book was given to me as a gift to help me get started. I have really had a great time cooking with it and it has delicious recipes in it that are easy and quick to prepare, which is what I was looking for!

Summary: The Outddor Dutch Oven Cookbook
Review: I just love this book! I gave it to several of my friends for Christmas and they are having a ball with it! Thank you Amazon for handling the book! It has the best, most interesting recipes of any Dutch oven cookbook with lots of helpful information.

Summary: This Book is Political Garbage
Review: I wanted abook on Dutch ovens NOT a book on political opinions. TO the author if you want to dispose you Liberial Socialist Ideas don't do it in a Dutch oven book.

Summary: Doesn't really tell you how to cook with a Dutch oven...
Review: I was disappointed in "The Outdoor Dutch Oven Cookbook." I purchased this book looking for information on cooking with Dutch ovens. What I got was a book with some interesting recipes (quite a few that are not made with a Dutch oven!) that was very vague about cooking techniques. There is a section on the differences in cast iron and aluminum Dutch ovens and some info on the various ways you can use them, but nothing on the actual techniques. After reading the book, I have the same questions I started with! Instead of the oddly random general camping information ("catch & release" fishing, human waste disposal, etc.) I would've much preferred some nitty-gritty info on how to use a Dutch oven.

Summary: Yummy ideas, but missing instructions
Review: In preparation for a trip to Death Valley for Thanksgiving, I am wading through a number of "D.O." cookbooks. This book has the best recipes by far, as noted by others here, but it doesn't include instructions on how to cook with a D.O. -- i.e. how many briquets to use, where to place them, how to adjust the temperature. Perhaps a lot of "seasoned" river runners like the authors have been doing it so long they assume everyone knows how, but a basic book should include basic instructions. If you're needing that info, check out "Lovin' Dutch Ovens," by Joan S. Larsen. The recipes are more Betty Crocker-ish (and in some cases frightening), but the instructions go over sizes, quantities and temperature control -- a must for most people in the market for a D.O. book. Oh and, BTW, once you know how to cook in a D.O., the reality is you can pretty much cook any of your favorite recipes.

Summary: Easy and delicious recipes
Review: Minium campsite cooking impact information was useful and directions very clear and simple. There is no magic required to use the Dutch oven just a few Kingsford brand briquettes. I own several Dutch oven cookbooks which all appear to be written for boy scout leaders, nothing wrong with that, however, Sheila Mills' cookbook is unique yet easy to use if you want rave food reviews in camp. All the recipes I have tried turned out to be delicious.
