Summary: A Motivational Journey
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I was very inspired by Peter's life and the manner in which he set out to discover the soul of America. The book was written in a way that allowed me to feel as if I was on the journey with him. A Walk Across America both motivated me and challenged me to discover the answers to questions that I seek.

Summary: What a walk!
Review: I found this book to be one that I couldn't put down. Peter's walk was very inspirational to me. As a person who will be entering the real world shortly, it gave me great insight. I admire Peter for taking the time to discover who is was as a person. During his walk, he not only learned more about himself, but also about those around him. Viewpoints and lifestyles were shared with Peter from people living in small towns to those living in bigger cities. What a great perspective I gained on life itself. This is a must read for anyone who is ready to move to a different part of their life! All of the bases were covered in this book!

Summary: God Bless America
Review: This book is wonderful. Before I read this book, I did not appreciate America at all. I thought that the United States was made up of a lot of terrible people. I also for some reason feared the southern states of America, because I have always been tauught that the south is old-fashioned and prejudice. After reading the book A Walk Across America, my views of America has changed. While reading this book, I learned right along with Peter how great our country truly is. I also learned that America is really made up of a lot of amazing, caring, and giving people. I reccomend this book for anyone who feels that America is a terrible place. After reading this book, I will guarantee you that your views of America will change from negative to positive.

Summary: A great novel...
Review: This is a freat novel which really makes you appreciate living in America. As Peter walks you feel like you are there walking with him and meeting the people that he meets. You learn from this book that we may be all different in the way we live and where we are from but we still have things in common. Peter shows this many times throughout the book when he stays and meets many people from all over the southern part of the country. This book really makes you think about what is important in your life. I recommend it to all to read.

Summary: A Walk Across America Review
Review: I really enjoyed the book, A Walk Across America. The book reminded me that life is not about the destination; it is about the journey and the sights you see, the things you do, the memories you create and the people you love. This book reminded me that life is the journey, and in the journey you find out who you are and what you stand for. Peter Jenkins is a great author, and this is a must read!

Summary: a soul searching odyssey
Review: A Walk Across America is a compelling journey that winds us in and out of many cultures, spiritual courses and peoples of this great country of ours. The strong sense of spirituality is a compelling force of this book, and the flavors, sights, sounds and vibrant characters are much more than background to this great adventure. A moving, touching and enlightening piece that will warm many hearts and restore faith. This is a very touching journey...not only an exploration of the people and country but one of great insight, and self-discovery. Peter's lone quest is not his alone. And those he meets on his way restore all our faith in humanity and in life.

Each character, big and small, light a path to freedom from judgment. From Homer Davenport's vision of life on the mountain, to the preachers that Peter meets in a variety of spiritual encounters...to the trials and difficulties he meets along the roads...and safe homes he is welcomed into...this is a striking and most timely/timeless piece of work.

Living with a black family in N. Carolina is the books highlight in many ways, as they are faced with conflict and bonding.

All in all, the only coments here are ones of sheer joy in sharing, just for a few hours, this amazing experience of Peter's journey towards self-discovery, and restored belief in humanity.

Summary: Wonderful book, full of adventure and a spiritual journey
Review: What a great book this is. Peter Jenkins in the 1970's walked across America and not only had interesting stories to tell, but also had his own spiritual journey to undertake. I first read this many years ago and it left a lasting impression upon me. Having recently re-read it, I still feel the journey he took and wish I too could take a journey such as his.

Maybe America was a tad more safe in the 1970's than it is today, but fortunately Peter only had a few incidents, that could also be because his trusting companion Cooper, a Siberian Husky also travelled with him many, many miles. From Peter's beginning travels in New England down the Atlantic states and across to Louisiana, he tells the reader his encounters as he faced them on the trails, roads, and forests, he also talks about his own self journey and inner strugle to find his "own path". His tales about the "Mountain Man" to his "adoption" by a black family is interesting and wonderful to read. He at last finds his "soul mate" and also what he is looking for. I love this book, and hopefully one day I would like to meet Peter Jenkins and let him know that his book made an impact upon me. I recommend this to anyone who would like to make a journey across America and get to know the people and land, also those who need a "spiritual journey" would find comfort in this book as well. Highly recommended!
