Rating: Summary: Capturing Air Travel Culture Review: This book, "Planeinsanity," encapsulates, in brilliant language, the culture of air travel. The author's fast paced tales, beautifully spiced with countless analogies that reference behaviors and situations embracing almost every apect of culture, inform the reader about a flight attendant's view of the world inside a "tin tube". It is a book that is informative, humorous, captivating, and one of the best that I have read on the subject of commercial air travel. I've already begun to read it for the second time.
Rating: Summary: I laughed till I snorted! Review: Honest beyond your wildest dreams! Engaging stories that speak, out loud, about the folly that grips humanity...thousands of feet above the earth. Hester's storytelling abilities are astounding and his sense of humor wonderfully wicked!
Rating: Summary: Plane Insanity is Total Insanity Review: I have never written a review. I have also never chortled as much while reading a book, as I did reading Plane Insanity. This is a wonderful book for anyone in the travel industry-be it airline, hotel, car rental, cruise, or travel agency! It will be enjoyed equally as much by those who are frequent travellers. We have all met the passengers and flight attendants detailed in this book. My absolute favorite section in this book is about "Big Bertha" who was working the first class cabin. She was busy preparing for takeoff, and an aggressive passenger kept demanding champagne while repeatedly asking her,"Do you know who I am? Do you know who I am?" Big Bertha went to the microphone and with the smooth tones of a talk show host asked for the attention of all passengers and flight crew. She announced,"We have a passenger in first class who does not know who he is. If anyone knows who he is, would you please come up and let us know immediately." The airplane erupted in laughter.
Rating: Summary: HILARIOUS AND HIGHLY ENTERTAINING! Review: Just about every occupation has it's high and low points, its quirks and oddities. What goes on high in the sky is no exception. I have great respect for flight attendants for they always seem to emit that cheerful, radiant smile when you know very well that like any other job, there are many times when they would sooner be in any other line of work than where they are. If you can endure all the trials and tribulations and still come out smiling, you are indeed dedicated. This book will take you behind the scenes of a flight attendant's responsibilities and give you "a bird's eye view" of what really goes on inside that plane after it leaves the ground or, in some cases, before it leaves. This has got to be one of the funniest books ever written. You will not believe what really goes on until you hear the author vividly and graphically relate these hilarious tales of woe and adventure. It is amazing what some people actually have the audacity to do, and they get away with it! Buy the book; it is definitely one that will keep you reading from start to finish. If the average person is thoroughly ticked off with their job and all else fails, they can always walk out the door. That is not an option when you are 30,000 feet in the air! "Plane Insanity" is a fantastic book, highly recommended and most deserving of a five-star rating.
Rating: Summary: Hysterical!!! Review: For someone who flew as little as possible even before the terrorists attacks, I was still was eager to read this book. This title doesn't disappoint. Elliott Hester has a real gift for storytelling and his sense of humor is razor sharp. I've been reading a chapter every chance I get, including in public places, and I've laughed so much that people have actually come up to ask what I'm reading. How is that for free publicity?!! I've laughed so hard at times that I've felt as if I'm going to pass out! Anyone who is having trouble flying the friendly skies after the events of the last few months should read this book to remind you of the good old days when the worst thing you could encounter on a flight was turbulence or some guy peeing in garbage can for all the world to see.
Rating: Summary: Funny Book Review: I loved this book. I read it in two days because I couldn't stop laughing. I fly frequently and have always wondered what kind of fun story's flight attendance have.
Rating: Summary: I was hoping for so much more. Review: I was expecting a lot of laugh-out-loud humor from this book. Instead it is mostly filled with anonymous, tame and predictable stories. At least it's a quick read.
Rating: Summary: The perfect gift for any frequent flyer Review: I just finished this and will be purchasing it for several people on my Christmas list. As a frequent business traveler the stories are not only funny but ring true. Its amazing what people will do and Hester captures the best of it. He writes with a dry wit that leaves you chuckling well into the next story.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely hilarious Review: This was the best flight attendant book I've read since Cabin Pressure. Most of the stories kept me laughing for days. Mr. Hester is an excellent writer and his way of wording things makes it even funnier. I don't know why people have given this book negative reviews and say it's "mildly amusing." These people need to get a life. Sure, the guy mentioned maybe TWICE that he was straight, but and uses humor about mentioning it those very, very few times that he does.
