Rating: Summary: one of the funniest books i've read this year Review: Some people lose their minds when they board a plane. In a series of essays Elliot Hester describes what it's like to : give service with a smile to a whole cabin full of drunks, go to the bathroom when turbulence hits, face down a huge passenger who you just put on the wrong plane and a host of other misadventures. This a great gift for anyone who's about to fly or for anyone who wonders why flying just isn't fun anymore. It's a good thing that Hester loves his work because there's no way a person could do this for nearly 20 years otherwise. I laughed so much while reading this that my family demanded that I read the stories out loud to them.
Rating: Summary: I Laughed So Hard I Cried!! Review: Just reading the first few pages, I was rip roaring with laughter!! It is incredibly entertaining and amusing! Having always wanted to be a flight attendant and currently in the midst of pursuing that dream again, 20 odd years after trying the first time around, I decided to read some current information on it. Choosing Elliot's book was the best in depth look into the career as a flight attendant that I could of choosen to read! Candid and not sugar coated, it was an eye awakening experience. I couldn't put it down!! Thanks Elliot, for sharing your life and career with us wannabe's!!
Rating: Summary: Brilliant, Hilarious, Entertaining & Honest Review: Hester is witty, insightful, writes with razor wit and a great gift of phrase. His prose blends the sense of absurd of Bill Bryson's travel books with the delivery of a Dave Barry. Besides a tremendous amount of entertainment (I literally laughed out loud), this is more than a collection of you-won't-believe-what-happened-to-us-next baddabings: Hester's anecdotes have a warm, sometimes poignant humanity to them, with an empathy for what the experience of being locked in a metallic tube with strangers at 600 mph all night can reveal about the human condition. Anyone who's ever considered an airline career should read Hester, who is telling the truth about the unique flight-attendant lifstyle and the rarified subculture it creates, done with warmth, irony, honesty and wit. I would also recommend Around The World In A Bad Mood by Renee Foss, another seasoned-flight-attendant memoir in a lighter vein.
Rating: Summary: A Flight Attendants AWESOME TALES OF......... Review: Now, i really don't like to read much. However one day while going to my gate in Newark Int'l airport i stopped by the book store in search of one book i just might enjoy for once! I saw it Plane Instanity with a plane model on the cover, i knew i would like it! I purchased it, and right after takeoff i started reading it. It was absolutley mind boggeling. I couldn't put it down by the time we arrived in Milwaukee i was only on page 100 and couldn't stop, But i had to wait! If you want to take a ourney around the world with a humourous strait guy then you will love it with all his tales that should make avciation history!
Rating: Summary: Wake me when it¿s over. Review: I purchased this book after reading the reviews of how funny the book was. While there are some humorous stories, overall, it is fairly flat. Rude flyers, sick passengers, and sexually active passengers only goes so far. The stories of more interest were interaction between crew members, sexually and otherwise. But soon you look up half way through the book waiting for the good stories and you realize that's all there is. I'm surprised the readers found this so funny as I found it mildly entertaining at best.
Rating: Summary: This Book is Hilarious Review: I bought this book on a layover in Phoenix and didn't put it down until I was finished. As a very frequent business and personal traveler, I've seen many of the "nightmare" passengers described with such wit and humor by Mr. Hester. It's always amazing to me how flight attendants are frequently treated like sub-humans by passengers, and how many people seem to lose all sense of tact and personal dignity once their boarding pass is taken. Having witnessed air rage, carry-on's the size of Texas, drunks, brawls and a million other human failings, reading Mr. Hester's flight attendant perspective confirmed what I've always suspected - they deal with a LOT, they're in a thankless position, and they're never appreciated until some heavy turbulence hits. HIGHLY recommended, whether you're a frequent traveler or not - the humor is universal.
Rating: Summary: A Stimulation Page Turner Review: This book is very exciting and a non-stop page turner. And for a passenger most of the time they are only concerned about their meals and drinks. This book exposes the truth behind the Flight Attendant's job. There is more that a flight attendant goes through, not only to serve the drinks. They have to deal with crazed air raged psychos, sick passengers, and generally every problem that could happen on an airplane. This book was great and well worth the money. I have read many Aviation books, before and this book is one of my favorites. If you are an aviation fan you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Very Intertaining Book Review: Very entertaining read. A flight attendent sharing some humorous moments with the traveling public. If you wondered what goes on with the flight attendants this is a good book to read. However I think this guy has to much drama during his time in the cabin.
Rating: Summary: Karen Review: I found this book lying on a seat after passengers disembarked (I'm a flight attendant) and started browsing through it,then reading it and then I couldn't put it down! It was hilarious and so true!! I could identify with every situation that happened in fact I could add some even more hilarious stories of my own. I enjoyed the whole book from the front to the end. I recommend this book to anyone who likes true light hearted humorous books. It will keep you glued and maybe next time you fly be a bitter nicer to the poor stewardess?.....
Rating: Summary: Interesting Reading on a Flight ! Review: I happened to share 2 nights with the author Mr.Hester on a train journey from New Delhi to Bangalore India and made acquaintance with a man who certainly has "seen it all" on board during his long tenure within USA ! It was also a sheer coincidence that I was working with a major european airline myself and so the common platform we shared was indeed interesting ! Having experienced almost every facade of passenger profiles on the ground and since Mr.Hester has every experience to share onboard, perhaps we could both write a book oneday ! His book is definitely hilarious from all directions and his lucid style in expressions will keep you rivetted on your seat, and should you be reading this book on a flight - watch out for anything to happen - around you ! Simply hilarious, and his style is unique !
