Rating: Summary: excellent read with engaging theme and characters! Super! Review: The premises and characters of this now-series are surprising, completely engaging and well-founded historically. If one's interest is in the realm of Brittish or Scottish history, this series will surprise and transport you along with the primary characters into the peat-smoked rooms of history. The botanical, sociological and ethnic research tie well into the historical tapestry of which the reader is certainly a part
Rating: Summary: A Brilliant Book Can Sure Come in Handy Review: I bought Outlander a couple years ago at a Heathrow airport newsstand, to take my mind off the flight I was about to get on. That day there had been terrorist threats somewhere and I was convinced that I was going to die. But by the time the plane left the runway I was totally engrossed in the novel, and hardly realized I was on a plane the entire flight home. Diana Gabaldon writes books which can instantly transport you to another time and place, as quickly as magically walking through ancient standing stones. I probably would not have bought Outlander if I had realized it was a romance novel, as I had never read one before out of embarrassment. But now I am very grateful for my mistake, and I have enjoyed the following books in the Outlander series very much
Rating: Summary: Outlander is so riveting that I could hardly stop reading!!! Review: I feel that this book fulfills all of the wanderlust and sense of adventure that brings out the restlessness in all of us. To
anyone who has a Scottish heritage, it will bring alot of home to you. This best action
that I have read in years!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Reality bites! Review: ... and when it does, there are books like Outlander! Your friends will have an intervention for you and sign you up with Fiction-aholics Anonymous! I couldn't put it down, and now, with bleary, triple-vision, I am groping for the keyboard to buy the sequel ... Help! Great characters, a narrative style that puts you THERE in the 18th century, and fascinating plot twists - it will ambush you and hold you for ransom. No book has done this to me in a long time!
Rating: Summary: Adventure and Romance Shoot Sparks from Cover to Cover Review: Diana Gabaldon writes one of the best Historical Romance Stories I have ever read. Her characters spring from the pages and set the imagination soaring as you follow Claire as she falls through the ring of stones in Scottland of 1945 to find herself suddenly flung back in time to Scottland of the 1743. She meets the Ancestor of her Husband in the Future and Jaimie who will become her husband in this time period. She learns to adapt quickly to the ways of the past and with Jaimie ends up traveling much of Scottland in her quest to help him escape from Captain Carter, her husband of the futures ancestor, a boor from the word go.
A rip roaring good tale that will capture you from the start. A really hard book to put down
Rating: Summary: Excellent historical romance Review: Excellent historical romance, it still affects me 5 years later. Beautifully written and historically correct (where applicable)
Rating: Summary: This is simply put the BEST book I have ever read!! Review: My Mother interduced me to "Outlander" she told me it was a really good book. I love time-travel anyways, so I thought I'd give it a try. We had to get the books back from my Aunt and I have to admit when I first saw how many pages there was I said that it would take me forever to read them. To which my Aunt said "Oh don't worry once you start reading they are so good you will have no problem reading them" boy was she right . I have read all of the first three books and have the last one ordered and cannot hardly wait. It is true that these books ruin you because you don't want to read anything else. there is just no way anything else could even come close to these books. I started reading "Outlander" in the evening and I could not put it down I was up till way in the morning. The same was true when I read her other two books. I have to say that Diana Gabaldon is the best!! You will not be able to put any of her books down let alone Outlander I have read it twice and this was right after I finished all three I had to go back and read about Claire and Jamie again and I am sure that I will read them all again
Rating: Summary: The quintessential romance book!! Review: When I first picked up "Outlander", I was just humoring my mother, who insisted that this was THE most engrossing novel she had ever read. When I finished "Outlander", one day and eight hours later, I was addicted to Scottish lore, time travel, and possibly the greatest love couple to come along since Romeo and Juliet. Diana Gabaldon masterfully weaves a tale of the political and domestic intrigues of 1743 Scotland, of love lost and discovered elsewhere, and the triumph of two souls who find each other despite the centuries that separate them. A unique plot and characters so real that you can almost touch them, and wish that you could! Long live Diana Gabaldon and Jamie and Claire
Rating: Summary: Wonderful - all four books! Review: DG's works are absolutly wonderful! The first three kept you on the edge of your seat - now Drums of Autumn knocks you off!! Can hardly wait for number five
Rating: Summary: I was hooked from page one Review: I work in a bookstore and have the opportunity to read a very diverse group of books. A fellow employee recommended this book to me so I thought I would pick it up at break. Break came and went and I forgot to go back to work. This story of the Scottish trials and the love between two people will literally rip your heart out and keep you on the edge of your seat. I finished this book in two nights and immediatly went and got the next one in the series. Diana Gabaldon is an incredible author and her books are just wonderfu
