Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book! Review: Anyone interested in historical fiction will love this book. One minute Clare Randall is in the twentieth century and the next minute--she is in 18th century Scotland full of clan warfare and, of course, romance. This novel is the first in the "Outlander" series. I haven't read the rest of the novels, but I will. Despite its length, you will whip right through this one as Clare decides whether to return to her husband in the 20th century or stay with her husband in the 18th.
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: I just read Outlander back in November and haven't put down the series since. I am about to read "Fiery Cross"!! I love this series about traveling through time and learning about history too! I totally recommend this for the romance and page turning excitement! What will happen next?!
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. I have read the entire series and have now started over because I enjoy them so much. I have bought at least five "Outlander" books because I keep loaning them to my friends and I don't get them back!
Rating: Summary: Crosstitch aka Outlander Review: Desire, passion, history, time travel. If you thought those don't go together, you are wrong. If you thought you'd never read romance, you are wrong. If you thought hot sex is only for today, boy,are you ever wrong. I used to give scholarly recommondations and they are appropriate as books go but this one is something else. A 1940s woman is transported back in time to the 1800s Scottish Highlands and finds the guy who was meant for her. Light on real history, although not bad. Incredibly hot and heavy on passion. I got my husband to buy me all of the sequels when I was in hospital for surgery and considered leaving him for Jamie, the protagonist. Life without this passion is not life. Hope you are interested now.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: I never knew how much I love historical fiction until I read Outlander. I know of several people who have read this and not one has called it anything less than great. I recommend the whole series to everyone and they all have loved it so far. The best thing about Outlander is the characters. You get so fanscinated with what they are doing that you don't even realize you're learning something about history as well. Every time I think, what new plot twist could she possibly come up with? She finds something I never expected. The book though 850 pages seems like 300 or so and like one of the other reviewers said, I ran right out and got the whole series when I finished.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!!! Review: The story: While on her second honeymoon in Scotland, Claire Randall touches a standing stone and finds herself transported to 18th century Scotland. Here she must face the dangers of English dragoons, Castle Leoch and the MacKenzie clan, and just plain survival. In order to keep the leader of the dragoons from taking her into custody as a spy, she must marry a young Scott named Jamie Fraser. Jamie is strong, young, and laird of his own estate, but he has no idea what to do with this strange woman that fascinates him and stirs his very soul. He vows to protect her, and because she is a suspected spy and witch, that becomes very difficult. Their love becomes all consuming, and Claire is torn between a husband she loves in the future, and the man her heart cannot live without. Claire and Jamie use her knowledge of the future to try and save Scotland from the ravages of war induced by General Cumberland and Bonny Prince Charlie. Can two people change the future, and if not can their love survive the hands of time. This is one of the best books ever written, in my humble opinion. I hesitate to write this review, because I know that I cannot do this book justice. The way Diana Gabaldon weaves history, love and war, and a love that time cannot tear apart, it truly beautiful. This is an epic tale. There are five books in this series and they are all at least 800 pages. It is a commitment to read them all, but I promise you it is worth it. Each book in the series is as good as the last, and you cannot help but fall in love with Jamie and Claire. Ah, Jamie...the red headed, Scottsman that dreams are made of! He leaps of the page and grabs the heart of every reader. And Claire, is such a smart, strong and independent woman. She is a nurse and she must relearn her craft in the 18th century. You learn with her as she studies medicinal herbs and remedies. The research put into this book is incredible! I do not know what else to say except, that anyone that has not read the Outlander series is truly missing out on one of the greatest joys ever! Rating: Summary: The Best! Review: I would highly recommend this book to anyone! The jacket makes it sound cheesy, but the story and characters are wonderful! It's not predictable, and just captivates you. Give it a chance; the first couple of chapters are a little boring. I can't wait for the next book!
Rating: Summary: Dianafan Review: This will be one of the best and most addictive books you'll ever read. I have read thousands of books over the years, and this one single book meant more to me than anything else I've ever read! You will live the life of Claire and Jamie. The characters of this book become very real people as you read the vibrant and tragic history of the Scots. The secondary characters are realistic and lend depth and demension to this book that many other books lack. The only problem is that it starts a bit slow, if you can read the first three chapters, you will be hooked for the next four books!! Take a chance and you'll love it!
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: If you like hostorical fiction books then you'll love this! I loved every minute of it, and hated it when it was finished. Lucky for me there are sequils.
Rating: Summary: Sorry to disagree Review: I finally got around to reading this book and all I can say is, What's the big deal? I found all the characters (including Jamie and Claire) to be stupid and unlikable. All those reviewers who are in love with Jamie make me wonder what they see in him that I don't. This book was supposed to be a time travel romance but had surprisingly little of either (romance or time travel). I guess graphic sex dosn't equal romance for me.
