Rating: Summary: What a GREAT read!!!! Review: What a wonderfully written story line. I fell in love with Jamie! These books have a tender and heartfelt side to them. There are parts that might be a little graphic for some tastes. However, it lends to the story of how brutal life could be during that time period! Can't wait for her to put out another book!!!
Rating: Summary: Best series I have ever read. Review: I read all four of these books in the space of one week as I could not bring myself to stop reading once I had started. The whole range of emotions from tears to fear to anger and love were tapped by these most excellent books. I have read the whole series four times and everyone I have told to read them have loved them also. I look forward for anymore books written by Gabaldon.
Rating: Summary: Adsolutely Enthralling! I'm Still Entranced By This Book! Review: I came across this book by accident, and it turned out to be one of the best books I've read in recent years. Having just read J. Suzanne Frank's "Reflections in the Nile," I came across a review of her book that commended Frank's work as equally satisfying as Gabaldon's. From that review, I decided to buy "Outlander" and quickly became absorbed in this well-crafted tale of history, romance, gallantry, and desire.Despite it's voluminous size, I read it every night well into the wee hours of the morning as if I could finish it in a day. I was enraptured by the vividly-drawn 18th century characters of Dougal, Collum, Captain Randall and of course...Jaime Frasier and Claire Beauchamp. The detailed intermingling of historical events, time-travel, adventure, and of timeless love blew me away. This book made me cry, hold my breath in suspense, laugh out loud, and share in the escapades of Jaime and Claire as if I were there myself. I felt their pain, triumph, and undying love, and wished I was Claire being comforted by Jaime's strong enbrace. I was a bit depressed to come to the end of this book, but absolutely elated to find that it was simply the first of a six-part series. I promptly ordered the next three installments and found myself waiting impatiently for them to arrive. I guess I'm lucky that I stumbled onto this remarkable series late in the game...I don't have to wait so long to read each successive novel. I will order the fifth installment when it's released and will likely hold my breath waiting for the sixth. I can't wait to see how the story of Claire and Jaime and their colorful supporting players unravels. Diana Gabaldon is an extraordinary writer with a penchant for mixing history with romance. If J. Suzanne Frank whetted my appetite for historical romance adventures, Gabaldon certainly sealed my fate as a fan for life.
Rating: Summary: I read all her books, three times I loved Jamie and Claire Review: What a great read, couldn't put them down, Jamie and Claire's love was wonderful. They were my friends for weeks, I couldn't wait till the next one came out. I hope she writes another triglogy on time travel these three were great!
Rating: Summary: The only book I have even considered reading more than once! Review: I read all 4 of Diana Gabaldon's books. I was held spellbound with each book. I loved that all the books linked together. My only regret in reading these books is that I have finished the series. I simply want more!!!
Rating: Summary: Jamie Fraser will take your breath away!!! Review: If you take this book to bed,in order to read yourself to sleep, it will be the last time you sleep for a very long while. I found myself seeing Jamie through Claire's eyes and loved it. Jamie was a boy,a man, a lover, a helpmate, a hero and a nusiance all in one big lovable package and I loved him. These characters will live with you for the rest of your days.
Rating: Summary: breath taking ,romantic and humerous Review: I think that this book was very breath taking and intersting. Jamie frasher will take your breath away the way she discribed him also the trip back in time and falling in love is just wanderful
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book of historical fiction-NOT a romance! Review: I have read many reviews of this book and I am not surprised that it has become well loved by thousands of readers. It transcends fiction genres. I looked for the sequels in "science fiction." It never occured to me that Outlander was a romance when I read it. As an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction (and having my degree in history), I saw it as historical fiction with a twist of fantasy, albeit with terrific romantic scenes included for all to enjoy! I think this book could have been marketed much more intelligently. It does not need to be classified by genre. How about just calling it "fiction"? Such an incredible, touching, story deserves to be exposed to as many people as possible. I would also like to congratulate the author on her historical accuracy. Claire's perspective on the lives of 18th century Scots was even more poignant because she had the dubious gift of foresight into these people's lives. She could also then be a critic of their world as well as her own "modernized" one. And on a personal note: any expectant mother will find Jenny's observations on the impending birth of a child in the Outlander sequel, Dragonfly in Amber, particularly beautiful. I cried when I read her words and when my son was born I had to write them down in his baby book. Not every author can craft characters that speak to our hearts.
Rating: Summary: I read a lot, and have never been more intrigued. Review: Okay, first of all, for those who don't seem to understand that this book IS a romance, check the section! I am a fan of both romance and fantasy fiction. I am also a history buff. This series has all of that! True, there are some descriptions that are quite graphic, a few things I found questionable (but this is from MY viewpoint, not Claire's), and Claire is a little dislikeable. But I thought the first person writing gave the series an interesting edge, especially since the character is nothing at all like me! And of course, as so many others have admitted, I have a bit of a crush on Jamie. I found all of the characters to be well developed. Voyager was the first of the series I read. It was in a bunch of books given to me and although it sounded interesting, it was the last of the bunch that I picked up, because I don't do thick books (they cause problems if they are hard to put down...like this whole series). When I realized there were two prequels and a sequel in the works, I bought and read Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber and read Voyager again while I awaited Drums of Autumn. I intend to read them again before the next release. I have also gotten my mother hooked on the series. I researched some of the general history and found it accurate, which was wonderful. I am a descendant of the clan MacKenzie who is into geneological studies. I'm still working on the accuracy of that one. I did find all of the exquisite detail inspiring as well as interesting. Some folks may think it's filler, but it's well researched! As an aspiring author, I am totally jealous of Ms. Gabaldon's writing talents and imagination and the patience it must've taken to research these books. This series is well-written and blended wonderfully to allow all facets of fictional writing to shine. It may be a romance, but I'd recommend it to any man who likes adventure. I eagerly await the release of the fifth book.
Rating: Summary: Outlander requires an entirely new category. Review: As a reader of all four novels in the Outlandish series, I submit that no classification of novel category exists to adequately define the historical/sci-fi/romance/human interest content of Diana Gabaldon's timeless love between Claire and Jamie. For all the many flaws of hero, heroine and author (as read from previous reviews) never forget the soul-stirring love one man and one woman have for each other. The justification for the series' success is that reader after reader "stumbles" upon the books (due to lack of classification)and rates them the best they've ever read. Publishers - be on the lookout for more books with the caliber of the Outlandish series!
