Summary: An epic; I have not read a book this good in a long time.
Review: What a book! I couldn't put it down. I was wrapped up in the story, the history, the politics, and the characters. I have recommended this book to all my friends, and am impatiently waiting for the next book in the sequel (The Fiery Cross).

Summary: Move over Romeo & Juliet - Jamie & Claire have arrived!
Review: For the last 16 years I've believed I would never find a romance novelist that I enjoyed as much as Kathleen Woodiwiss.....but Diana Gabaldon has done the impossible! I've read this 4 book series and my only regret is that I'm not able to erase them from my mind so that I can devour them again and again. These books are jam packed with historical, cultural and scientific information, yet you are so spellbound by the characters that you aren't even aware that you're reading much more than a romance novel. Jamie & Claire are so much more than characters in a book, they are REAL people. The author's inate ability to bring them to life is beyond compare. Once you begin reading, you will live and breathe their every moment with utter fascination and a resounding refusal to put the book(s) down. No one's imagination could ever create a more perfect man than Jamie Fraser or a more perfect companion than Claire. I can't even begin to hope that Ms. Gabaldon will be able to match much less surpass the sheer enjoyment her readers have been treated to in this series, but she has an incredible fan base throughout the world now and the pressure is on. Diana....give us MORE!

Summary: A breathtaking novel, not to be missed.
Review: I first came across cross stich (Outlander)which I presume is the British title for this novel about a year ago. Since then Claire and Jamie have been in my thoughts constantly, I often wonder what it would be like to be claire and how I would have coped with the life she had with jamie. I have read all four books in the series so far and they just get better and better, please, please, please can we have some more. Diana Gabaldon is one of the most inovative writers of period time travel fiction that I have ever read. So get yourself down to the nearest bookstore buy a copy, sit back and let the magic begin, because I garauntee you w'ont want it to end.

Summary: Fantastic read!!
Review: When I finished Outlander I started looking for similar books. I couldn't believe I had actually stumbled onto a trilogy. I really enjoyed this book as well as the others. I also hope their are more in the works. Thanks for such a wonderful read!!!!

Summary: UNEXPECTED AND STUNNING!!!
Review: I loved it! This book is not a sci-fi, romance, or historical novel. It is a little bit of all three. If you want strictly sci-fi, read TEK WARS!!! I was hooked as soon as I started reading. Claire's character seems to take a lot of abuse in these reviews, so I will stand up for her. I found her a strong, independant woman who did the best she could in an impossible situation. And why would she choose to return to Frank, an insipid cheater, over Jamie!! Would any of us?

Summary: Incredible
Review: I wanted to review this remarkable series however the review from a reader from Texas dated 6/10/98 said everything I could have said. To those who didn't like these books, well if someone's stopped payment on your reality check, don't read historical fiction. Bad things happen to good people in those times as now and good people are forced to do unpleasant things sometimes to survive. You can bury your head in the sand and pretend that such things never happen but it doesn't stop them from happening. These things make the story more real because they portray real life. Claire and Jamie's love is so poignant because they are able to face adversity and fortify their love, come what may. If you are appalled by some of things that occur then be equally impressed with the character of the main characters as they make sacrifices and suffer and become stronger because through it all they love.

I've read all four of the published books and am looking forward to the others to come. I couldn't put these books down and despite their length, read them in slightly over a month. I would agree with Jamie's assessment of the length of books, some just have a lot to say! (and I haven't been living in a cave for seven years.) I've read many books of this genre in my spare time and never have I read a more detailed and involving romance. I highly recommend this series.

Summary: Scotland here I come!!!
Review: I read all four books in this series. I did not want the first book, but my 20 year old niece insisted, so I humored her. I began reading it, never, never put it down until I read the entire book! I went to a bookstore the next day and bought the other three books! I have really enjoyed reading other people's opinions of this series, especially the ones that didn't like it, I feel they are somehow unhappy, pretentious, in other words: DON'T GET IT. They see Claire through their eyes or our time. Claire was a nurse in 1946, she would have acted this way (cursing, out-spoken), ask any old war nurse, they had to be that way to survive! As for Jamie beating her, men did that then for survival, he never would have done that to Claire if she had listened to him or if he had known the real reason for her to be there (of course, she could not have told him then). I know these books like I wrote them myself, I read chapters that I particuraly enjoyed when I need a pick-me-up. I love these books as if they are a history of my own family. The description of Jamie is my idea of the perfect man! I have a paperback book of Dragonfly in Amber with a picture inside the cover page, this drawing is how I see Jamie, the picture looks exactly like my husband! I imagine myself as Claire, as I am out-spoken and do curse a bit! I urge anyone to go back and browse through chapters to find those scenes they love best, it will put a smile on your face! Since reading Diana's books, I have been hungry for any book about Scotland, I plan to go there someday, my daughter wants to go there and find a red-headed man! I await the two next books in this series impatiently, thank god for excerpts!

Summary: The best book I've ever read!
Review: Diana Gabaldon is a master storyteller. I've been telling everyone about her books, especially Outlander, which I believe is the best of the series. It was the first time reading a book where I actually laughed aloud and had tears in my eyes. One really feels the joy and pain of the characters. Claire and Jaime are so vividly described that I felt as if I were living both lives. I spent every waking moment reading that book. What a joy! If anyone has Diana Gabaldon's contact numbers, please let me know. I want to lobby her for a fifth book. I'll be the first one on-line to order it from Amazon.com!

Summary: It's fantastic, and I want Jamie. :)
Review: I loved this book. I was at first wary of reading it, because I'm not much into romance novels. But after I started reading it, it sucked me in. Gabaldon does a great job of bringing the characters to life. As I was nearing the end of the book, I was regretting that I had read it so quickly; I hate when you must leave characters in a story that you love. I'm glad that this is the first in a series so that I may follow Claire on more of her journeys.

Summary: I FELL IN LOVE WITH SCOTLAND BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK!
Review: I have always been a reader of time-travel and romance but never has a book stayed with me for so long (the rape scene still gives me chills). It is the first book I recommend to any new reader, especially if they're interested in any history about Scotland. It has everything: Romance, Time-Travel, History and an ongoing series that will keep you entralled for years. The Battle of Culloden is brought to life on these pages, never to be forgotten and the Scots should always to be admired.
