Summary: Couldn't put it down
Review: I'm not what you'd call a serious fan of romance novels. Most of the time I read them to get a good laugh. Outlander, however, transcends the genre, and is one of the best books I've read in a long time. The book was recommended to me by a friend, and after reading the first book I immediately had to go out and buy the other three. Perfect escapist reading, great for lying by a pool in summer. I remember laughing in some parts, nearly sobbing in others, and enjoying the passionate and enduring romance between Jamie and Claire. It's not often you find a truly well-written romance novel - most of them border on the ridiculous. Outlander and all the other books break the mold. If you want a truly enjoyable read, buy this book! I guarantee you won't be able to put it down.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!
Review: I never thought I could finish an 850-page book in 4 days, but I did with "Outlander!" I just couldn't put the book down. I got so terribly involved with Jamie and Claire, I honestly felt as if I were THERE with them. I fell in love with Jamie and liked Claire better than almost any fictional heroine I've ever encountered. I was skeptical about beginning it, because I don't like romances and -- even though I'm a European history freak -- have never found the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie very interesting, but now I'm addicted and so glad I gave it a try. I recommend this book and its sequels to everyone!

Summary: Addicting........
Review: Claire is thrown back 200 years in time. She ends up in Scotland, shortly before the time that Prince Charlie attempts to retake the thrown for his father, King James. She meets and marries the perfect man - Jamie Fraser.

This novel is part of a series. At the moment I am reading the 2nd in the series - Dragonfly in Amber. This series is so much more than a typical "romance" novel. I cannot say enough good things about it. There is something for everyone in this series.

So far there are four novels in the series. According to the author, Diana Galbaldon, there will be at least two more. I will savour and cherise each one.

Each novel is at least 800 pages long and each and every page is a joy. You truely get your money's worth.

Summary: Excellent escapist fare!
Review: Other than the Tolkien series, this series of books has been my lifetime favorite. I must say a few words with regards to the audio-cassette. The reader, Ms. James was familiar to me from television's "Jewel in the Crown". She is an excellent actress and her performance on this audio-cassette is nothing less than brillant. I wish she would read the unabridged edition because there is so much more content in the book as to make the cassette seriously lacking. But the cassette gives you an appetite for the book and Ms. James brings the characters alive. Having experienced both, I recommend both the book and the cassette. Ms.James would make an excellent "Claire" should a series or movie be considered!

Summary: The unbelievable made believable by an excellent writer
Review: I have just finished the third book in the series and can not wait to start the fourth. It looks like Diana G.will be writing about Jamie and Claire for the rest of her life because her public will demand it. I loved this book.

Summary: Unstoppable Reading
Review: This is an amazing book filled with love, humor and honesty. The historical background, the attention to details and the wonderful dialogue makes this more than the "typical" romance novel. Claire and Jamie are so real and delightful that its been hard to read another book without making comparisons. I hope Ms. Gabalon continues this series for a long time.

Summary: Too long-winded in length and verbage
Review: As an avid reader of historical-romantic fiction, I checked this book out of the library because I had read many of the 5-star reviews written by other readers. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. This book would have captured my interest, and would have still been a wonderful storyline, if it were half the length. I have no desire whatsoever to read the sequels for the same reason.

Summary: If you love Scotland, history and passion, this is it!
Review: I finished this book in 3 days. Couldn't put it down. If you love Scotland, history and the passion between a man and a woman, this book is for you. Claire travels back to the mid-1700s by sheer chance, and meets the true love of her life. She eventually adjusts and ends up married to Jamie. What a man! They don't make 'em like that anymore. This events in this book seem very real to me. I usually read history, biographies, and other non-fiction. But this is definitely one to get into. I can't wait to read the next one! Thank you, Diane Gabaldon.

Summary: i didnt realize i would like a romance novel so much
Review: this is one of those books that you cant stop reading no matter how much you dread finishing the story, thus ending your time together with the characters. it is such fun to find a book that you connect with like that, and in Outlander, i think most will find that quality. it is a quick read, with lots of historical interest mixed in with the romance and strongly developed characters. have fun with this one!

Summary: Memorable Characters & Great Historcial Romance
Review: Outlander is the best book I've ever read and I thank Diana Gabaldon for giving me Jamie & Claire. Not only did I love the story but I also learned a great deal about 18th Century Scotland. Gabaldons descriptions of her characters, especially Jamie, just brings them to life before your very eyes! You almost get the feeling you're there with them through all the adventures. I could not put this book down and I didn't want it to end! I think everyone who reads this book will fall in love with Jamie.
