Rating: Summary: A GREAT ADVENTURE!!! Review: After reading Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati and liking it. I wondered who Diana Gabaldon was, since she had written a small review on the cover. I do not read that many romantic novels but I thought I would give this one a try. This book was great! I have read MANY books but this one will go to the top of my most memorable books. I am now half way done with Dragonfly in Amber. I bought it an hour after I finished Outlander(I could'nt wait to see what would happen next). I agree with other reviews that say this book should not be in the Romance section. I think some people will not buy them for that reason alone. Looking forward to reading the rest!!!
Rating: Summary: The first book of the best series I have ever read!!! Review: Exciting book written by an author who obviously researched her technical material beforehand. Dianne Gabaldon has moved the the very top of my favorite authors with her series about time traveler Claire and Jamie, a man who lived 200 years before her birth. This is one book that you will rarely find in a used book store... everyone wants to keep their copy to be reread later. Be sure to follow-up with Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, and Drums of Autumn. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read... Review: I have never read a book 5 times and not tired of it until Outlander. Mrs. Gabaldon truely has an excellent gift for storytelling. I cried and laughed throughout the whole book. I really enjoyed all of the historical facts in the book. All the research Mrs. Gabaldon did, really paid off. There were times that I was so swept away in the book my husband became jealous. I would recommend this book to everyone, and I know I will be reading it again. Thank you Diana, for such a wonderful escape...I am anxiously waiting for the 5th book!!!!
Rating: Summary: The best story book I've ever read! Review: I just finish Outlander,I'm still with them (Jamie and Claire), I was so happy to found out that there was 3 more books that follow there story's, that I'm running to the book store to buy them. Every time I had to put the book down, I was anxious to go back and read more. I would have done the same things she did for the man I love. Keep writing Diana, I wish I could.
Rating: Summary: Best books I have ever read (and there have been many)!! Review: The "Outlander" series is by far the best set of books that I have ever read! So good in fact, that I try to get everyone I know to read them. Only two people that I have given the first book to have never gone on to finish the series. One of my close friends and I talk about the books so often, we convinced another close friend (who does not read much beyond mysteries and true crime) to read Outlander. She finished it and demanded the rest of the series! She is now avidly awaiting "The Fiery Cross" with the rest of us. Diana Gabaldon has a storytelling ability like no other that I have ever seen and in the words of my mother "what an imagination"! Her theories on the standing stones found throughout the British Isles is thought provoking. The wonderful story that began with a post-war nurse getting reaquainted with her husband in Scotland and being thrown back in time to Jacobean Scotland continues with the story of her daughter in "Drums of Autumn". I can't wait for the next installlment of the series. I also can't wait for Diana's new mystery that she is currently working on. Just one thing to add, I think that the publisher and the bookstores have done a great disservice by classifying these books as Romance. They are far from being your typical romance and I think that this classification deters many people who think that romance books are all fluff and not worth reading. I think reading is important, no matter what you're reading.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: First of all, I would not consider this book a romance. A romantic historical novel, sure. A romance, no. So if you aren't reading this book because you think it's a romance--that excuse is out. I think Gabaldon's writing is really excellent. It's difficult to write a book like this in first person, but she pulls it off very well. The characters are developed so thoroughly that you remember them long after you're done reading. And the history--wow. If you're a history buff, you'll love how Gabaldon ties in all the historical events of the period in with the story. Amazing. Of the first 3 novels in the series, I liked this one the best by far. I've read it many times. So...give it a whirl!
Rating: Summary: I don't read romance, but I loved this series Review: A girlfriend told me I must read this book and I did so to appease her. The first few chapters are slow-going, but if you can make it to Scotland, you've made it baby! After the first love scene, I was ready to pounce on my own husband--pure erotica without the empty-headed "pulsing loins" garbage. The characters' plights and perils gently tug at your emotions and then thrash them. You will be exhausted after some of the things Jamie and Claire, and their love, live through. I have read all four books twice, and eagerly await the next installment.
Rating: Summary: Glad to see others loved it like I did!!!! Review: I couldn't put the whole series down! The second one read a little slower. But the 3rd and especially the 4th one in the series was great. I hated to see them end. I work with 12 ladies in an office and we all loved them. One even wrote the publisher to find out if it was really over. Too bad it was. What a great get-away series.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!! Review: Bar none, this is the best book, and series that I have ever read. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed reading it. Don't pass it up!!
Rating: Summary: Buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it! Review: Although it's been over a year since I finished Diana's third book, when the subject of "something good to read" came up at a business lunch today, I found myself blabbing on and on about Claire and Jaimie. I saw my companion's eyes glaze over when I mentioned "romance" and "time travel" but I hope I convinced her to try Outlander. After that she'll be hooked. I too am a bit snobby about what I read and would never stoop to buy anything with Fabio on the cover, but these books are different. I was unaware of my surroundings for days and read while eating, dressing, walking, you name it. I carried my book everywhere, even in the car, just in case I'd have a spare second at a stop light. When I wasn't reading I was thinking about the characters. I've been a voracious reader for nearly 40 years and never had characters take up permanent residence in my head the way Claire and Jaimie have. I've got to get to Scotland some day! I bought the 4th book, Drums of Autumn, some time ago but am actually SAVING it for a special, long, luxurious weekend. ENJOY!
