Summary: Historical Romance Fiction
Review: I own all of the Outlander series in hardcover. I read the novels over and over again. I cannot get enough. I do not place this book in the simple "romance" category. It is an adventure, science fiction, history, and romance story all rolled into a wonderful series of "thick" novels. Don't let the size intimidate you, Dianna Gabaldon gives purpose to each and every page. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. Happy reading! P.S. those of you comparing this novel to a Knight in Shining Armor have got to be kidding me. If you are spending an afternoon on the beach by all means read A Knight it requires little thought or time. If you want to spend hours snuggled under a blanket and enjoyably be transported to another place and time read Outlander, and the rest. It is time well spent.

Summary: Wife-Beating is not Romance
Review: Half-way through this overlong novel, Jamie beats his wife ("half to death" she says) and later confesses that he enjoyed it. Claire's rapidly accepts that she "deserved" the beating. I don't care what the historical context, this is SICK! This is the first romance I have read in years, and it will be the last. The violence in this novel is appalling and I cannot believe all the rave reviews.

Summary: Excellent book, I couldn't put it down.
Review: The book was a story that I didn't want to end. Luckily there are three more after it! I would recommend this love story to anyone. The history really added to the enjoyment of this book also.

Summary: Best Read of the Year for me
Review: This book has it all, love, history, violence, suspense...I could not put it down. If you are looking for a great summer escape, this is it!

Summary: Too much violence, not enough love
Review: I bought this book on the strength of nearly 350 positive online reader reviews. I was misled about what the book would be like by all 350. I expected the book would be at its core a romance between heroine and hero. But I had to wait until page 266 for the first kiss. Prior to that page, the hero is shot by a musket, stabbed by a bayonet, twice whipped by a cat o' nine tails, pummeled by a big man with huge fists, and attacked by many fists in a bar brawl. All these in separate scenes. Meanwhile the heroine is nearly raped by the English, abducted by the Scottish, mauled by a gang of drunks, and viciously punched in the stomach by an army captain. "The squealing went on, rising to an inhuman pitch as the heavy body toppled to one side, driving the protruding dagger hilt-deep in the hairy flesh." Thus died a wild boar. But not before the boar had fatally injured one of its hunters. The first kiss, when it arrives, is formally not for its own sake but to avoid being murdered or imprisoned by third parties. Which is definitely not what I was looking for! I was looking for a romance. After page 266, the romance begins to pick up, but the violence keeps on happening. I quit reading it half way through primarily because I am bored by violence and bloodshed. I think it is interesting that none of the 350 reviewers clued me in in that regard.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: I've only read two books this year that I could describe as spellbinding. The Triumph and the Glory. And Outlander. WOW!

Summary: Simply the best!
Review: A friend suggested I try this one and luckily I was on vacation because I didn't stop reading until I finished the entire thing! This is an amazing story with great characters, humor and passion. You'll fall in love with Jaime and Claire and will immediately want to read the rest of the series to find out what happens to them. Don't be put off by the length-- once you're finished, you'll wish it had been longer.

Diana Gabaldon has an incredible gift for writing that pulls you into the story and makes you feel as if you were there experiencing the story for yourself. An absolute must-read! I can't wait until she publishes numbers 5 and 6!

Summary: Absolutely the most fascinating fiction I have ever read.
Review: I can`t recommend Diana`s Outlander series highly enough! I have been reading her books over and over for years and even travelled to Scotland to visit Culloden battlefield, a truly moving place! I can rightfully say that Diana has enriched my life by creating such lovable, complex characters like Jamie, Claire, John Grey,. etc. and by setting them against such an historically interesting ,and very tragic, background.Diana has a true understanding of human nature and a fine sense of humour, and we can all learn from her in many ways. Thanks, Diana!

Summary: Good But Too Long
Review: I liked the plot of the book. The idea was interesting but I found it far too long. It seemed to me that the authour just tried to stick a bunch of stuff in to have a Big Book. She could have probably cut out 150 pages without losing anything of the story.
