Rating: Summary: Totally bad azz book! Review: Ok, this book and all the other 3 that follows were the best read I've had in a while. I thought it was a typical romance but it wasn't. It was Adventure, Historical, Sci-Fi, Romance, and god only knows what else. Diana Gabaldon is incredible and she writes w/ such descriptive words, phrases, and everything else on the list. I couldn't put the books down. I read all 4+Outlandish within 2 months and now I can't wait for the 5th book.......Hurry up Diana!!!!
Rating: Summary: Not To Be Missed Review: This is, by far, the most absorbing book I've ever read (as are its sequels). Claire and Jamie are so real, so in depth...I find myself thinking about their relationship from time to time, and its been seven years since I first read the book! The historical aspect of the book is fascinating as well, a mini history lesson! Read Outlander, then rent Braveheart or Rob Roy. Amazing!
Rating: Summary: Abridgements Bite! Review: I love this book! and I bought the audio verison to be able to listen to the story, but they cut out the heart of it for the abridgement. If you have read the book and wondered "How DO you pronounce Sassenach or Laoghaire," buy the audio version. It is worth the price. If you have not read the book, don't bother. Please, to those in the position to make the call of whether or not to abridge a book : DO NOT!
Rating: Summary: Outlander Review: Historically, this book was fascinating. At times, I felt as if I could see 18th century Scotland through Claire's eyes. I was hooked by the premise of the story immediately. Unfortunately, by the end of the book I had so tired of Jamie's abuse at the hands of everyone that I was ready to abandon the story. I was astounded that each event of torture became worse and worse and by the end I was hoping for his demise. Exploring the psychological angle of a woman facing the dissonance of her own upbringing with that of a more repressed era for women would have strengthened this story.
Rating: Summary: Really, The Best! Review: I have read all the books of the Outlander series and can't wait to start them again. Make sure you get the Outlandish Companion when you get these books, as it really gives even more depth (if possible) to these very well written books! Excellent, top-notch...you will NOT be able to put them down! Thanks Diana Gabaldon, You are one helluva writer and I can't wait much longer for more! I am hosed!
Rating: Summary: spell bounding Review: The people in all of the books are so real, you are there with them every step of the way. the love, hate, anguish, dispear, tears. You don't want the books to end, they become a part of your like for the time you are reading the books and wonder what they would do in your situtation if they had to decide on some thing. Diana is one of the best authors I have read in a long, long time.Thands!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING! Review: I got this entire Outlander series for Christmas and I could not put this book down! It was captivating. It's one of those books where you tell yourself one more chapter over and over and over and before you know it your clock says 4 am! I found it non-stop entertainment. The characters were so real and the writing so wonderful to read that everything just jumped out of the pages. I would definitely recommend this book, especially to women. The first book I was so captivated by in a long time!
Rating: Summary: For addicts: How to get a fix before "Fiery Cross" comes out Review: For all of you who love this series and can't wait for the next installment, there is a way to get little "fixes". Go to Diana's official web page. You will find excerpts from the next three novels. Its easy to find. Using most search engines, including aol, type in Diana Gabaldon, hit enter, and then select the web page from caltech. Its a must for die hard fans.
Rating: Summary: Not your average Romance Review: Outlander was a wonderful leisurely read, it is much more than a standard romance novel. I picked it up partly due to the customer reviews, and found myself completely engaged in Claire's trials. Jamie is a terrific hero, and I can't wait to read more about him and Claire in the sequels. However, I did find the last quarter of the book to be somewhat slow, and I thought the final torturing of Jamie to be extremely disturbing, and even unneccessary. How many times can the man be tortured in one book! Hopefully there will be no more torture scenes in the sequels.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: I read this book almost 5 years ago now and I still re-read it almost monthly. I could not and I am still not able to put it down! She paints such a beautiful picture of Scotland and of Claire and Jamie's romance. I have read all the books in the series and they are just as amazing as the first. All my friends have read it because I bug them so much to do so. Gabaldon is an incredible writer and storyteller. I too long to go to Scotland and go Jamie hunting! I recommend all of her books highly, but only read them when you have enough time to devote to it, becaue they are almost impossible to put down!
