Rating: Summary: Outlander....OUTSTANDING Review: I was a little intimidated when I found Diana Gabaldon's 850+ page "Outlander" series. I was so captivated by Claire and Jamie and their story that became so real for me. Romance, adventure, loyalty, funny, sad, love for all-time and overall the one of the best series I have ever read. Although each one of Ms. Gabaldon's books get heavier in size with each turn of events-don't shy away from any of them-you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: a long saga Review: This book is not bad, but it takes a while to get through it. The sequals are equally lengthy. They are well written, but tend to lose steam. They are written as if the writer was actually there, which makes them interesting. If you have a week to curl up with a book and devote your week to it, this one is good. Give yourself a break between this one and the sequal.
Rating: Summary: Outlander Series Review: Never judge a book by its cover. When a friend presented me with the first book of this series I thought to myself - oh great, some lightweight romance. Not interested. - I was so wrong. These books have left me captivated and totally involved with Claire and Jamie. I hang on the edge of every event waiting for its outcome. Any lover of Scotland and its people will fall in love with these books. I always hate finishing one, because I don't know how long I have to wait for the next one. They are romantic, but the books also live the history of Scotland. Fantastic!!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read! No, it is THE BEST! Review: As an avid reader of romance novels (over 500), I have to say that Outlander is by far the best novel I have ever read. In many of the books I have read, the authors do not reach the same level of detail as Diana Gabaldon does. I am always in constant search of a "great read" and found it in the Outlander series. I have read all four books in the series several times now and each time it's like reading a new book. The storyline is captivating and believable and the characters are very real. I love that the book contains romance, mystery, politics, sex, danger, and adventure. I've cried, laughed, been horrified and amazed by the characters and their actions. I highly recommend the Outlander Series to everyone! I am eagerly anticipating the next book!!!
Rating: Summary: Action, Adventure, and romance, all wrapped up in one!!! Review: This book was one of the best books i've read in a while. It kepy my attention and I never got bored. I liked how it tied in all the differents aspects of writing. When I first started reading it, I couldn't wait for the adventure and action to begin. This book was worth reading and I am currently reading the second book in the series.
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Escape (Reading)! Review: What an awesome book! I hated to have to put it down (and get back to reality) and when I did put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it. I'm looking forward to getting into the next one!
Rating: Summary: The most addicting book I have ever read Review: I could not put this book and the following books down. They are great. This books really feeds the imagination.
Rating: Summary: AN ABSOLUTELY RIVETING STORY!!!!! Review: A lover of historical fiction, adventure books, and books with a time travel theme, I hesitated buying this book, despite the very intriguing sounding plot, because it was labeled as being a romance novel. Still, curiosity won the day, and am I ever glad that it did! This has got to be one of the most engrossing and highly entertaining novels that I have ever read. Surprisingly well written, I was hooked almost immediately. The novel begins in the year 1945, and the plot revolves around the adventures of Claire Randall, an Englishwoman and combat nurse during World War II, who is reunited with her husband, Frank, after the war. While on a second honeymoon in Scotland, she visits a strange flat topped hill in the highlands of Scotland, where a forbidding stone circle draws her. Touching one of the stones, she is hurled through a vortex in time and finds herself in eighteenth century Scotland. There, she meets James Fraser, a brave and brawny Scotsman, and finds herself thrust into the midst of clan warfare and intrigue. Finding in Jamie a soulmate, she falls passionately in love, but is conflicted because of the feelings she harbors for the husband she left behind. She goes on, however, to have enough adventures to last a lifetime. What happens to these star crossed lovers in eighteenth century Scotland is riveting. The author is a master storyteller and her use of historical detail is superlative. Those who love well written, historical fiction will be delighted. The book tells a rip roaring good story and is a veritable page turner. This is the first in a now published series of four books. Having read each and every one, all I can say is... Bravo! I love each and every one of them!
Rating: Summary: Are you sure that this is a romance? Review: This book was really great. It seemed to carry it all: ACCURATE history, fighting, politics, sex, magic, mystery... The book begins in the future, but then travels back two centuries into the same region of Scotland. Clare is a nurse practitioner who quickly becomes nessacary to the survial of a Scottish clan, but not without having drawn the attention of the ruling English. What starts out as a convience becomes a loving relationship admist the difficulties surrounding Scottish life in the 1700's. The amazing thing about this book is that it does not read as a "romance." I am not sure why it ended up there. Outlander has mor in common with the Lightbringer by Donna Gillespi (fiction section, but more romantic-mushy than this) than it does to something like Highland Velvet (also good, but for diferent reasons). My mother, who gave me this book, keeps all of the "to be read" books in the same pile as my father. He read this book and really liked it before my mother even got to it. He even read the second book in the series after we told him it was a romance.
Rating: Summary: I don't think it gets any better than this Review: I absolutely loved this book. It is my all time favorite. It has everything: love, lust, greed, honor, manipulations and machinations. Characters you truly love and those you really hate. The hero and heroine are my all time favorites and the villain is at the top of my most hated list.
