Rating: Summary: Fantastic!! Review: I have just finished this first book of this series and haven't been so enthused about a new author for many years. Her wonderful attention to detail and the contrasts between life in the 1940's and 1740's were great! What impressed me most of all was her ability to write in Gaelic dialect so well, I could just HEAR it! (The fact that one of my best friends is Scottish helped a little I guess.) This book has EVERYTHING--history, lovable characters, great love scenes, and nasty villains. I can't wait to start the second one!
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful book! Review: When I first received this book from one of my friends, I'll admit, I was a bit intimidated. I flipped to the back and noticed it was 600+ pages... Not being one to turn down a challenge, I immediately starting reading it. What a joyous day. Gabaldon tells the story of Claire and Jamie with such detail. I literally dreamed about these characters! I have never read another book that so completely captured my attention as those in the Outlander series. I am nearing the end of the third book, Voyager, and it's just as wonderful as the first. (No boring sequels here) And I can't begin to express how tickled I was to find that there is a fifth novel! I rue the day when I finish the Outlander series and have to revert back to my old dime store romance novels.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Series ever! Review: I have discovered the outlander series approxomately 5 years ago and absolutely love them. I have read all of them 7 times and it's hard to tell which one is the best! The combination of romance, history, fiction and thriller is unsurpassed. The story stays interresting and spell binding through all four books. I can't wait for the fiery cross!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down. Review: This book was given to me by a friend and it sat around for over a year before I gave it a try. What a mistake! Long as it is, I read it almost in one sitting. Diana Gabaldon is a very good writer and clearly has done her historical homework, placing her characters very really in time and place. Having been to Scotland, I know she knows what she's talking about. The romance of Jamie and Claire is so beautifully expressed. She also walks the line between past and present in an intelligent way which furthers the story and not just emphasizes the differences in the times. I thought this book and its sequels would be my summer reading but here it is only the end of June, I've read them all and I have to wait until October for installment #5!
Rating: Summary: 100 STARS!!!! Review: This is a wonderful book. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves great character development. I picked this book up at random one day at the bookstore and couldn't put it down! I read the third book in the series over a 2 and a half day period. I just couldn't put the book down! You really feel like you belong. Claire becomes a close friend. When Jamie is in trouble your heart goes out for Claire. The whole series is riviting. A.
Rating: Summary: I can not believe how much I loved this book and the series Review: Generally I stay as far away from romance novels as possible, but when a friend insisted that I give this a try, I found myself hooked! I immediatly read the rest of the series and have been waiting for months (sometimes not as patiently as I would like) for the next intallment. The story is well told, the characters (especially some of the minor ones) are compelling, and it is very easy to become hooked. There is a reason why people have formed fan clubs and why there is a companion to the books. They are simply great!
Rating: Summary: 12 stars Review: I simply loved it. The book itself was a gift from my aunt to my mother, my mother to me, and from me to my sister. I can read that book over and over while never growing tierd from such an amazing story. It was like I was no longer reading but watching the story develop. Mrs. Gadaldon now has me reading the whole series, and still wanting more!!! A MUST READ!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Journey Through Time Review: This book does a wonderful job of making it actually seem *possible* to be thrown back through time. Claire and Jamie and the others are very believable characters and you get to feel that they are quite real. Definitely takes you away!
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: I simply loved this book. It may be 850 pages but I didn't even notice. I couldn't keep my nose out of it and it kept me reading the whole entire weekend. Gabaldon is a great character developer. Not only did I really get into the plot, but I was feeling what the characters felt. Great book and a real page turner!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: I have not only read the outlander series several times, but I own extra copies of each book incase they stop selling them and mine fall apart from use. I highly recommend the Outlander Series to any one who enjoys romance, action, adventure, and travelling into the past. This is not your typical romance novel that is full of heaving breast and pulsing thighs. You can't put these books down the adventure you go through is a not stop ride with alot of actual true Scotish history and romance combined. Before you know it Jamie and Claire Fraiser are a part of your life and you can't wait to see what happens next. I have been impatiently waiting for book number 5 and am pre ordering it from amazon.com. The books intertwine - you must read them more than once. things that happen in book four answer questions in book one. Each time you read them you pick up and understand more. they are excellent for the person who wants to use there minds and see the interlacing plans and for the person who enjoys the adventure. If they offered 8 stars this series would get it. All of the books are excellent. ENJOY
