Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!
Review: Hello I am someone who won't read unless it is good and I could not put this book down! Not only is it romantic and wonderful the characters are to die for and I never wanted it to end! I am scared to read another book because I am worried that it won't be as good. Trust me this is a must read and I have never loved any book more than I love this one! My all time favorit. And I mean that with all my heart!

Summary: I'm hooked!
Review: What can I say? I'm completely hooked on the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon. In the past two months, I have flown through Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber and have just started Voyager. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book as soon as I read the last page of the previous one.

I have four children and my spare time is at a premium. These books are the ultimate reward at the end of a busy day.

Summary: What a GREAT book!!
Review: As a reader of romances for almost 30 years now, I have to say this is one of the best I've ever read. The time travel concept intrigued me, since I'd not read that before. Diana Gabaldon writes incredibly vividly. I felt as though I was there. The hero, Jamie, is the best hero ever!! I can't believe all the things that happen in this book and that there are 4 more. What an imagination. And I learned a lot about history also. To have a "modern" woman thrust back into time, to a time all lovers of romance novels have read about, was a lot of fun. Makes you wonder...

I finished Outlander today and can't wait to read #2. Ms.Gabaldon is now one of my favorites, I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Save for a Rainy Weekend
Review: This book is so good you won't want to put it down. The idea of time travel and romance was not exactly what I go for, but this one, oh it is incredible. After several years this still is my No. 1 book of all time. Don't miss this one and its successors. The story of Claire and Jamie is captivating. Diana Gabaldon leads you to unbelievably romantic situations and lets your mind get lost in what she has not written. It's masterful and provides a key element in leaving you wanting more. I'll admit that Outlander is the best of the series, but the others will fill the craving Outlander leaves you with. Don't miss this great read.

Summary: Engrossing Escapism
Review: For all of you who are looking for a book that keeps you pinned to its pages, I *highly* recommend Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. Like the majority of people who have read it, I have to say its one of the best books I've ever read and upon finishing it my mind instantly craved more. The following week I ran back to my bookstore and snatched up the next three books in the series and am currently waiting for The Fiery Cross (book #5) to come out on paperback here in Canada.

I have to say, when I read the back of the book and read the words "time travel" and "romance", I was ready to put Outlander back on its shelf. Thank God I didn't and opted instead to read the first few pages. Well, it didn't turn out to be the first few; I had to be asked on numerous occasions to move so that other people could get to the books on the shelf I had been standing in front of while reading.

The book involves so much and as mentioned by many of the other reviewers here, it has no one particular genre. That is true and is probably the main reason it appeals to so many. It has something for everyone: adventure, history, romance, GREAT writing, mystery...the list goes on.

I've found that quite a few readers stopped following the book once they reached the infamous "beating" scene between the two protagonists. There is one point that none of these reviewers bothers to mention. Claire (Outlander's heroine) does NOT get beaten solely because she disobeyed Jamie (Outlander's hero). She gets beaten because in disobeying Jamie, she came close to KILLING a significant number of men in their travelling party. Now I'm not going to ruin the book for everyone else by divulging any more details. I would just hate to see that people not read this book because of what other readers are saying is a barbaric act that is dealt with lightly, namely, wife beating. If a man had done what Claire did during the 1700's in Scotland it is likely he would have been killed, if not "beaten within an inch of his life". In my opinion, Mrs. Gabaldon handled that scene with proper care and it certainly didn't disappoint me (and I'm an adamant Woman! LOL)

Now do yourselves a favour and pick this book up. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Summary: predictable romance
Review: As a lover of historical fiction I decided to give Outlander a try. I agree that it was based on a fun premise, somewhat educational, and good fun. Then it became repetitious. Get away from the bad guys, have great sex, learn more about other characters, get away from the bad guys, have great sex, learn more about other characters. Given, the characters are interesting. But the plot (or lack of) was too formulaic. And many of the sex scenes were unnecessary. Though I approached it as a piece of brain candy, I was unable to finish the last 200 pages due to its predicability and my boredom.

Summary: Worth EVERY minute!
Review: When I first read the back cover of the book I immediately had visions of some viking time travel story with the damsel in distress. I decided to give Mrs. Galbaldon 15 minutes of my time and check out the story line. The first chapter got me hooked and the book is now my favorite! While this book is listed as "romance", it is a far cry from the cheesy, lustful novels we all pretend not to really read. Mrs. Galbaldon painted the main character as a real woman dealing with reality and created a love story that was very believable. I got swept away by the story and couldn't wait to read the entire series! It has to be one of the best romance novels I have ever read!

Summary: Need an escape?
Review: This is a book which makes you feel like Diana Gabaldon is your best friend. She must have written it for me because few books draw me in like this one. I hesitated because it is long, but I'm so glad I read it. My recommendation? -> It's summer - dive in!

Summary: outlander
Review: I absolutly loved it!! The story keeps you on the edge of your seat. I've read it many times. The characters seem so real that when I re-read it, it is like visiting an old friend. It is rich in accurate history, and very romantic. A must read!!!
