Rating: Summary: Absolutely Breathtaking Review: I won't go into the story plot...by now we all know what this book is about. What I will say is that it is a breathtaking, powerful look at men, women, family, honor, marriage, love. What strikes me is that Claire and Jamie's loyalty to each other is so essential not only for their very survival, but for their very souls lives'as well. By the end Jamie is more human than he will ever be, and you will be out of breath!
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Written - Can't Put It Down! Review: If you love to read then this is the series for you! I have been rereading these books everytime a new one is released and still find them all to be wonderful and very hard to put down. So much happens in each book that when rereading I continually think, "How could I have forgotten that part? It was so funny and endearing!" I feel like Jamie and Claire are real people I should know! Even if you don't like historical romance you should give this a try. I call it more of an adventure book that is very well written and researched.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: A friend recommended this book to me and I ordered it online not realizing that it was an 800+ page book. So, when I got it and saw its girth, I was hesitant to start it. For months it sat on my book shelf, untouched, until I finally decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. WOW! This book was amazing! Honestly, it was the best book I have ever read in any genre. I absolutely LOVED the main characters (especially Jamie), the eloquent style of writing of this author, and the exciting, highly involved storyline (never a dull moment!). The only problem with it, and I mean the ONLY problem was that I could NOT put it down, leading to sleep deprivation. I am eagerly awaiting my order of the next book in the series, Dragonfly in Amber. I cannot wait!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: What can I say? It was terrific. I've worn out my paperback reading the story over and over. I never get tired of it! The writing, the love story, the history, the interesting characters; it's a powerful book that you won't soon forget. The rest of the series is just as great. Read them all!
Rating: Summary: Voyager is a master piece! Review: I was given this book by an avid bookreader and unfortunately allowed it to sit on a shelf for a year before I picked it up. Once I began reading it, I could not put it down. I was swept away by emotion and passion as I read about the seemingly realistic situation of Claire Beauchamp, battling her two realities and the difficulties she endured in learning to embrace the culture, beliefs and even the consequences of her actions in her new life. I know these characters are not real, but it is impossible to not love them. From someone who lived among the Celts for some time, and also dealt with a few hard headed Scotsmen, I give Voyager a "10." I was brought back to my days of singing Celtic songs, roaming the Highlands and listening to Celtic stories about the English and the slavery of the Celts. And for those of you who didn't care for what happened to Claire in the Chapter "Reckonings" try living in the 17th Century for a while. You may understand this portion better. Ms. Gabaldon knows her stuff.TULACH ARD!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed every second of it! Review: I was recommended this book in several book groups last year, and it honestly seemed like 18 out of the 20 people that had read it absolutely loved it. I figured, with those odds, who can resist? This book was just as good as I had hoped it would be. We follow the journey of Clare, of 20th century nurse that accidentally time travels to 18th century Scotland. Once she gets there, she meets with adventure after adventure with an outlaw named Jamie that she meets by accident. There is a little something for everyone in this book, from romance, to intrigue, to horror - you name it, the book has it! I was hooked the entire time I was reading the novel, and would recommend it to anyone. I really look forward to reading the others in the series.
Rating: Summary: better late than never Review: I more or less stumbled onto this novel after the fact and I really enjoyed the fantastical tale told. I'd like to read some more of the novels in this series.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: Apparently I'm in the minority, but I was really disappointed in this book. With such a promising story line, a great heroine, and such a clever setup, it should have been outstanding. But I got tired of the brutality. Does Diana Gabaldon have some fixation on physical and sexual violence? Or is this standard fare for romances? (not my genre) Seemed like Jamie was being hideously injured about every 5 pages, and the bit with the sadistic gay ancestor Jack Randall was, in my opinion, overdone to the point of absurdity. And did she ever explain the kilted ghost who stared sadly at her in 1945 or did I miss that when i was skimming it to be done with it in the end? Beat ME up instead of Jamie if I ever try to read a Gabaldon book again.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: I am addicted. This book is wonderful and so are the rest of the books in this series. A must read if you're interested in Scottish history (and you like big, dreamy stud muffins, LOL!)
Rating: Summary: The outlander/Cross stitch series Review: Both my mother and I have been delighted with the whole seris of these books. We bought them in paper back, but have now replaced them with hardback copies so that we can read them over and over.. I would recommend them to anyone who knows that fantasy is much better than real life.
