Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Chronicle of an Endangered Culture Review: I had the opportunity to see some of Steve McCurry's haunting Tibetan photographs at the George Eastman House in Rochester over the summer. The impact of his flawless oversized gallery prints cannot be compared to that of this smaller format book, but it is still an incredibly beautiful edition, full of emotion. McCurry's portraits are his claim to fame, and their depth and intensity are faithfully represented by Phaidon. I am even more impressed by his candid shots. To give this book a cursory look-through would not do it justice. Studying the photographs, however, renders them a sort of meditative quality, evocative of the culture that they illustrate. The book also contains a moving and informative introduction by Robert Thurman.
