Summary: probably the best book read in a long while
Review: 'America:A Love Story'
this book has everything!fast paced and hard hitting,it's colorful description of man and nature is powerful indeed.
I like particularly to read books that describe'everyday'and this book does just that.Torre's book is like an 'eyeopener'at least it was to me about America, this great and wonderful checkerboard of a country,a continent,it's so big that very few of us can ever hope to see and experience it coast to coast.
now, that's where Torre will be our guide and what a guide. No pulling any punches here,he literally involve us the readers in his drive thru the enduring landscape from Alaska to Florida.it's like being his side companion in the passenger seat.
Along the way,we meet everyone, people that we could pass anytime in our own towns and streets and some we will never meet or aspire to meet!winners and losers, the violence, peace, friendship, the optimism of helping others not so fortunate is part of Americana, this book has it all,i laughed my head off to the story of'the bluerinsed lady and the Hell's angel',and I cried bitter tears of his so near and so far feelings of his visit to a fallen comrade in arms from Vietnam.I cannot really remember having found a book quite like this, and I read a lot of books. It's realism is breathtaking and so near you could almost smell the sweat and the perfume....I just hope you will find time to buy it.I did via internet'amazon.com'.this book will probably never become a bestseller
REAL good books rarely

do, at least not first time out by an unheard of writer, nevertheless, this is one of those 'hit me right in the face'books.Run out and buy it today.

best of luck,a grateful reader,Soleig sunshine

Summary: a book that makes you proud to be an american
Review: finally,I found a book that says it like it is.That has the edge and takes the reader into the american mainstream, sure there's critisism of our society and way of life but it's far outnumbered by the positiveness of the events unfolding in this fine book.Torre takes the reader from Alaska to Florida one generation ago,and I envision it's not much different out there today.from the small towns to the gleaming cities, from the friendly highway cops to the small town pastor, from veterans to youngsters, from housewives to the governor,Las vegas and glitter and all over ,America: Love Story is more than a book,it's a 'glimpse into the'American Soul'It touches on everyday citizens and heroes and on the high and mighty and has a tender under tone of what our nation tries to stand for,it's an unashamedly patriotic book and it filled me with pride. There are muggings and violence experienced by the author on his long trek and trip down the whole of the continent from the grandeaur of Alaska to the sunny beaches and wetlands of Florida, from when he started in Anchorage to his arrival in Key West, his powerful rendering of people and places is so real and and full of spot on colorful descriptions,as the author takes us thru 33 states coast to coast and from border to border, the nature and stillness has a roaring quality, and I for one both wept and laughed many times during my reading of this book. What a book! It's by a little known writer and where has his talent been hiding in the past!He spent many years overseas and I guess that's why he can compare and judge and mingle his experiences worldwide with those in America.I purchased the book via internet.may many read this gem of a book,it probably never be a bestseller, but this is quite simply the best book I have ever read.period.thanks for your attention.

Review: I bought this book from an airport book store in Europe, the cover caught my eye,it stood out,the beautiful Stars and Stripes flew proudly on the cover,i have always wanted to go and visit America, that big and powerful country so close as an allied and friendly nation but so far to travel to visit.I figure a book travel might be the next best thing and what a book!it rivited me to the pages, here unfolds life before my eyes so vivid and so exceptionally personally depicted, man and nature, the full life, the high and low,the good the bad and the ugly, all is there in Torre's grand book as he takes us down the whole of North America from Alaska to Florida and from coast to coast! What really got to me was the very upbeat and positiveness of the book and the people he met and the nature and land he travelled thru.Torre is and author that is at his most powerful when meeting and describing people of all walks of life!I loved it.Now,the next is I must get a ticket and travel to see America for myself.A book to be glad for!The book is an eyeopener!

Summary: just a great book to read!
Review: I got the book at the internet store of Amazon.com.the reason why i bought it was the titel and the cover, both so strikingly.i started reading the book one late evening and i just couldn't put it down, and lost a lot of sleep that nite, however,it was worth it,wow, what a book, the action moves along smoothly as Torre, the author drives down the great continent of America, and what a drive he does, and the beauty of this book is that it's so sharing,Torre meets and talk and mingle and really describe so vividly his encounters,it is like we are with him all the time, we the readers are his companion on this epic trip,i never heard of anyone doing this before, quite unique. And the positiveness and upbeat tone is there all the time, even though the author meets with both violence and muggings on his year long trip, from Alaska to Florida, coast to coast, and that's what makes the book such a good read, this is a great story about the American society in general.the author dedicates his book to ALL Americans, and that's a perfect gesture.I loved this book,I cried and laughed along the road.Where have this talented writer been in the past?Anyway, this is the book of the year for me,for sure.

Summary: a book that has everything
Review: I have never been to AMERICA myself, have never set foot in that great country, but after reading Torre B.Isaksen's book,
'America: a Love Story,I felt like I was traveling that rugged and hauntingly beautiful country myself!Such reality, such absolutely spot on description and storytelling,it was like you were wandering down that street or countrylane yourself, you could virtually smell the action,it lept to you from page to page and humour and happiness and sadness, peace and violence and all that stuff you have heard about America,it's all there in this page turner of a book.
from ordinary everyday citizen to the high and mighty,Torre's book takes it all in,there are muggings, violent flashbacks from
distant wars and conflicts, but what really gave me most pleasure was the powerful rendering of the rough, beautiful countryside, the enduring nature as Torre drives from Alaska's frozen fjords and grandeur to the sunny Florida and many states in between, each described with a realistic and moving picture and settings. And you know what,I have just booked a month long holiday to go and visit the USA,I laughed and cried and this America I must see for myself. That's how this book hit me.I can warmly recommend this book to anyone and if you want to take a 'dive'into the 'american soul'this is the book.Have a good reading!(I live in Norway and was given this book as a present)

Summary: a honest appraisal of the 'american soul'
Review: I read this book with great pleasure,it had everything, the great american outdoor, the personal description of the people that the author meets along the route from Alaska to Florida. And it's like you have been there yourself, travelling with Torre in his pickup, and the dialogue it's out of this world, this is far more than a trip down the road, believe me.I will describe the book as a real glimpse'into the american soul',the people are so fantastically and colorful depicted and very personal,it feels like you KNOW many of the persons he meet. That and the strength and variety of events is what makes this book a very good read, and the grandeur nature is described so well,in short it's a mighty entertaining book,'AMERICA: A Love Story' is one of the best books I have read in a long while.Period.I purchased it from the Internet shopping,at a good value.I live in Ireland, and work in the book industry myself.best rgds Mr.Paul/Ireland
