Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a highly enjoyable read
Review: I read this in the Spring of 1997, while living in Japan, so you'll pardon my lack of detail in the review. I just can't believe that no one else wrote a review for it, or that it's (apparently) out of print.

This travelogue was great fun to read since while the author is clearly fond of and knowledgeable about Japan, he is still willing to reveal a good spread of warts, sometimes hilariously so.

Basically, he walks around the island by himself (having been there a number of times before) and relates his various encounters with a deft pen.

If you have even the mildest interest in Japan, you will enjoy this.
