Summary: Too Many Mistakes
Review: Better call before you go to any recommended restaurants and double-check all the directions. On our Christmas 2004 visit to NYC we went to El Fogon and found it is now a seamstress shop. Subsequently discovered that El Fogon closed prior to April 2001 according to a Google search. Emily's at 1325 5th Av- closed "a couple years ago" one finds out when calling the phone number listed. Keep in mind these are both "Recommended" in the NY Times 2005 Guide! Going to Tavern-on-the-Green via subway? Guide tells you to take the 6 train to E66th St. You'll wind up on the EAST side at Lexington & E66th but Tavern-on-the-Green is on the WEST side a couple miles away. Try the B train to Columbus Circle or 72nd instead and you'll only be a few blocks away (better yet, take a cab). If you go to the Museum of Modern Art, take a little extra money. The adult admission is $20, not $12 as listed in the book. No wonder the author is listed as "not available". Recommended restaurants that closed a few years ago, inaccurate directions, incorrect information - These are just the mistakes we found-do they really update this every year or just put a new cover on a 4 year old guide? The color map of the subway system on the inside back cover is nice, but be sure to have a magnifying glass to read it. Not sure if they got anything right but if you're going to the Big Apple, don't rely on this book.
