Rating: Summary: Didn't know there was so much! Review: Excellent book! We have been to Captiva about 10 times and just love it there! The statement in the book regarding crossing the causeway is so true, I giggled to myself. I'm heading to Captiva in 4 more days and wish it were sooner! . I'll be on Captiva for 14 days and as I go through the book, I'm not sure I'll be there long enough to accomplish all of the things there are to do on Sanibel and Captiva. I'll be planning out our days, but also making sure there are some days of just sitting on the beach enjoying as it states in the book. Thank you for sharing your secrets with us and for the insight you provided regarding the islanders feelings. It's important for those of us who come visiting keep the island the way it is meant to be kept. If you are planning on going to Sanibel and Captiva, this book is a must. So much more to do than sit on the beach like we have done and enjoyed for the last 10 visits. We'll be looking for those buried treasures!
Rating: Summary: Didn't know there was so much! Review: Guidebooks are usually so impersonal. You get them for all the great info they have - landmarks, hiking trails, available accommodations - but don't really expect creativity, polls of local kids, and poems. This guidebook *IS* a great guidebook, in that it contains all the usual info/facts/contact numbers you'd want and expect. But it goes so much further, and gives you such a feel for the islands, in such a creative way. They poll the locals on the best restaurants. You can bet where I'll be eating - at the locals' favorite. They poll local kids on topics so you know what your kids will want to do. They have essays and poems from locals to impart real native flavor. Not only has this book given me all I could want on Sanibel/Captiva, it's the best written and most interesting guidebook I've ever seen!
Rating: Summary: Sanibel and Captive: A guide to the Islands by Julie Neal Review: I have been to Sanibel and Captiva many time and found the book informative. There are suggestions that the average vacationer would not know to do. I thought it captured the essence of this wonderful area. It is good for the first time visitor to the area, or the experienced vacationer. It was easy to read and use.

Rating: Summary: Definitely recommend Review: I have read every book on Sanibel and the gulf coast that I have been able to get my hands on over the last four years. This book is by far the best, most comprehensive, and thorough book on Sanibel and Captiva that I have found. The chapters are easy to read and very informative. The pictures are beautiful, and I love the personal touches with the photographs of people who live and visit Sanibel. I wish I would have had this book before we went to Sanibel the first time! I definitely recommend it to all who will be visiting Sanibel in the future.
Rating: Summary: Complete, well-organized, excellent photos Review: Our family has been visiting Sanibel and Captiva for more than 30 years, and this book is the most complete guide we can imagine. The writing is so good (I'm a freelance writer myself), the information is well-organized, and the photography is excellent. We bought it while we were vacationing on Captiva and have already recommended it to cousins and aunts and uncles who also fish and shell there.
Rating: Summary: Magnificent! Review: This book was my "secret" to planning my family's 1st trip to Sanibel. I would have been completely lost without it! We have already recommened it to several friends and family members who are now planning their trip to the island. Very informative, beautiful pictures, easy to read... they even give you a few itineraries of things to do depening on your length of stay! You won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: The best Review: This is by far the best book for anyone who wants to or has visited Sanibel and Captiva. I've been going to the islands for years and thought I knew a lot but after reading this book I can't wait to go back again for all the great things I've been missing. The most amazing thing about this book is the pictures and identifiers for all the wildlife and shells you can find on the islands. This is the most complete book and the only one you'll ever need to enjoy Sanibel and Captiva to the fullest.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic guide to the Islands! Review: This is not much of a review, I can't add much to what others wrote. It's really a good book, and if you go to Sanibel you need to buy it.Two future improvements: 1. The maps could incorporate a bit more detail, like mentioning there's only one outdoor playground on the island (by the rec center). 2. In future the sentence saying the refuge is closed on Friday should be in bold text! We missed metntion of this until we learned the hard way and went back to look.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: We are really enjoying this book. There's so much information, and I love the photos. My husband and I have never been to Sanibel or Captiva (we're planning a trip later this year), but reading about the islands is relaxing and helps us escape our stressful jobs.
