Rating: Summary: Love it but be careful Review: My 430se died (somewhat) within two days. Just long enough for me to achieve a real respect for its abilities. I miss the MP3 playback, the ability to download recorded books to listen to on trips, the voice-activated contact list, and all the games that can be played... and in case my boss is reading this: the ability to use it as a terminal, the expense tracking, and other productive items. The screen went dark but I could still use it to do non-visual task like voice-controlled contact manager since I had already entered the data. I'm looking forward to getting my replacement so I can be more productive (and finish that book I started on the plane.) My opinion is this is a tremendous tool and toy. I am assuming I just got one with a loose display connection, however, I will be religously backing-up all data for quite some time... I should do that anyway.
Rating: Summary: Best yet Review: My first PDA was a Palm Pilot Pro. Getting it to backup/sync with my main computer was a chore. Entering data was not easy. It was slow, even with added RAM. Then I got a Casio E-10. Faster. It easily synced with MS Outlook. The IR feature worked great with my portable. Just turn both on, point the IRs at each other and, seconds later, all done. No cradle needed (although one was included). Easy to enter data using virtual keyboard or hand printing (no special characters like Palm's Jot). But visibility in bright daylight was bad. E-105 solves that problem and has 32MB of RAM to upload Expedia Maps. Of course, the 56K color screen garners lots of attention when I pop it out in meetings! And it's faster still. Still tastes like human poop though.
Rating: Summary: tired of re-loading Review: Nice looking, Beautiful color screen, easy to use, yet my 430 continues to shut down and not start up. I've tried soft start, hard start, I'm ready to start the thing on fire. My 430 is less than 6 months old. Very unreliable!
Rating: Summary: The ultimate palm top Review: The battery is long lasting. The color screen has super resolution which can even be seen in full sun. The quality of performance used on a T1 lan is great. The built in mp3 player is a very nice touch, the only problem is there isn't enough storage space to have too many songs stored. Of all the palms I have used this one is by far the best.
Rating: Summary: Best Windows CE Device So Far! Review: The HP Jornada 430 SE is simply the greatest Win CE device that has ever been made. It has an excellent combination of features that make it a must-buy, despite its price tag. The MP3 decoder is great, and so are the voice-activated contacts and photo applications. I have not had any problems with my unit and synchronization is a breeze with MS ActiveSync! It's a great product for all those times that you want access to your information, and want to play a little, too - without having to pull out your laptop! Good job HP!
Rating: Summary: Review for the Jornada 420 Review: The Jornada 420, which I am sure is similar to the new 430, is a decent product. It is somewhat bigger than the PPilot (a little big to fit in your pocket), but has some great features. Color display, voice recordings and Window CE are very handy. Again, this review is for the 420- support is poor at best. I have a persistent problem that makes me "reboot" the machine. It frequently locks-up on me and this reboot is required. Most of the time I do not loose any data, sometimes I have to set-up the machine again and download all my information (which is fairly simple, just time consuming). I have talked to support on a few occasions, and the last time - the gentlemen I spoke with actually said, "Are you being dense on purpose"? Can you believe that? He must not have read the HP Way. So in all, color display is great, the features are helpful and if the 430 has been improved over the 420 and once they iron out all of the bugs, the Jornada series will be a fine product.
Rating: Summary: Best Multi-Function PDA Review: The Jornada 430SE does an excellent job of handling the mundane functions such as calendars, to do lists, email, and contacts. But the other more recreational features make this unit a hit. MP3s play in full stereo (I loaded a Compact Flash card with Hendrix, Clapton, Beatles and Mozart). I've loaded several Audible books. I also use it to keep a selection of family photos in jpeg format in a slide show. I have another slide show with some of my favorite art pieces from DaVinci, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Picasso. I downloaded a shareware chess game(it beats me everytime). The voice recognition contacts makes it easy to find the number for pizza delivery. I use AvantGo to download USAToday, Sporting News and a daily Jeopardy quiz. That was a bit hairy to set up first time but works like a charm now. There are very few Mobile Channels available although you can make any web page a Mobile Channel with the click of a few buttons. Synchronization with the desktop is a snap. A fast USB connection would be nice. The serial connection must be cranked up to the max, 115K. I wish Pocket Excel was available for it. Other spreadsheets are available though. I strongly recommend a Compact Flash card of at least 32Mb if you plan to use it's many features. I figure I'll get two to three years out of this until I can't resist the next nifty gadget.
Rating: Summary: Hard to beat Review: The new Jornada 430 and the latest version of the WinCE OS is quite nice. I don't think it will catch on fully until the price comes down, but if you are planning on getting a PDA this is the one. Using this with Microsoft's new ActiveSync software on the desktop is also a big improvement over previous setups. After getting one I find I don't need to carry my TODO list around on paper anymore, save time because my schedule is always with me and I can answer email in meetings (in other words, get real work done). On top of all this, having a color display is great, not to mention enough memory to run real apps if your need calls for it. I don't think the Palm does either of these.
Rating: Summary: Smooth transition if you are a current windows/outlook user Review: The Windows CE and color monitor were the key reasons I purchased the Jornada. These features make it seem like a seemless conversion from the Windows based computer that I use everyday. The MP3 player has been a nice feature but keep in mind that downloading 1 song(appx 4.4 MB per song) is about all you can place on the hard drive. In order to have a true replacement for the RIO MP3 player, you will need to buy a storage card and they are not cheap. I purchased an additional 48 MB storage card and it was $199.00. This 48 MB will hold about 10 songs downloaded from the internet (4.4 MB x 10 songs = 44 MB). While the MP3 downloads were free, the $199.00 seems like an expensive way to create a 10 song collection (even if you can change it as many times as you want).
Rating: Summary: The new HP version of the Palm Pilot is a hit Review: This all new version of the older Palm Pilot is a gurantee for business people. You can record all your client information. Altogh to this great product it is expenive and I suggest waiting till it is cheaper.
