Summary: bought it, played with it, but Im sending it back.
Review: 3 years ago I was willing to abandon my Mac and get a PC, which proved to be a much more powerful tool. Upon thinking about this, I questioned my allegiance to my palm V and ordered the HP 430se, lured especially by the MP3 player and color screen. What I got was a device that was bigger, much slower, a pain in the a** to navigate through, and the screen froze within minutes after taking it out of the box, and several times therafter. WinCE definately ain't there yet. I rather stick to my palm V and buy a separate mp3/voicerecorder, than deal with a slow, clumpy version of windows in my pocket.

note: give msoft a year- Im sure they'll soon find a way to copy the palms speed and ease of use, while adding the advantage of seamless windows/wireless-internet connectivity.

Summary: Not as cool as the Casio E-100/105!
Review: Fairly interesting device, but I would also suggest taking a look at the Casio E-100/105, which has better buttons and (with the 105) 32M of memory. WinCE in general certainly has quirks, but it's nice to have the ability to listen to stereo MP3 and watch short videos on these color WinCE units.

Summary: The greatest little gizmo ever!
Review: I absolutely adore my Jornada. It ahs SOOO much in such a small size. It is a perfect companion when you are on the go, especially since it can hook up with your laptop computer for even more great feaures. The best thing I really found was the MP3 playback was astounding, me being a composer of electronic music, this has the sound quality of my home stereo minus the subwoofer. If you can afford it, welcome to paradise!

Summary: Incredible power, but a little bulky
Review: I gave up my Palm Pilot Pro (6 oz., 1 MB RAM, 16 MHz CPU, monochrome screen) to move to this newer generation device (8 oz., 16 MB RAM, 131 Mhz CPU, color screen). It comes with Outlook 2000 and synchronizes flawlessly with that and Windows 98 functions. Interestingly, its speed seems about the same as the Palm; however, it can play MP3 files, record and play .wav files, play Audible files, and interface with Word. It's slightly bulkier than the Palm Pro and considerably more so than a Palm V. If you're looking for lots of bells and whistles, the Jornada is great. If you need some basic functions in a smaller package, look at the Palm V.

Summary: Sweet, but kind of bulky.
Review: I got one about a month ago and it's cool.
first of all it has a built in MP3 player which is really cool, but if you plan on using it a lot I suggest you get a few large memory cards. Next it has a 16-bit color so you can put high resolution images on it. there are also many other cool things on it, but if size matters to you I suggest you get something a little more compact, I mean this thing is 5.1 × 3.2 × 0.9 big! But if you just want a handheld to scribble down notes, and replace getting a MP3 player this is the way to go.
Over all I really like it and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a PDA.

Summary: Take a look at it first
Review: I had a hard time deciding between getting the right PDA for me. I visited every site that had reviews on them that I could find and also went down to CompUSA to see them for myself. I found that reviews made by customers, or people that actually own different PDA's are the best reviews. (Check the USENET). I really was leaning toward a WinCE device such as this HP Jornada 430 because it has color, audio, and I could impress a lot of people with these two things. I changed my mind the moment I saw it at CompUSA. The cover is a flimsy transparent piece of plastic that flips over to cover it, the PDA itself is bulky compared to PalmOS-type of PDA's, battery lifespan is extremely small compared to that of PalmOS-type of PDA's, and it's running Windows (need I say more?). Okay, let me explain these reasons. 1) The cover - Think of a thin piece of fiberglass that looks as if it would shatter much easier than any other piece of plastic would. I'd say it is similar to half the thickness of a CD, and much more brittle. 2) The size - Look and compare the size of different PDA's before choosing one. If you don't mind having a PDA that you can't fit in your pocket, then you're all set with this one. It's akin to the old Gameboy's. Palm's are smaller than even the new Gameboy pocket. 3) Battery life - What do you want to do today? That is exactly what you'll get to do. Probably less than a day is what I imagine. If you USE your PDA, you'll get maybe a day's worth of use without re-charging, but I doubt it. What did you buy your PDA for? Playing games and listening to audio, or to be a (P)ersonal (D)igital (A)ssistant? It's really nice to have a Gameboy, Rio, and PDA all rolled up in one, but to be able to use it extensively for several hours is not feasible. Buy them separately. A color Gameboy will last for days before dying, and it has MUCH better games than any WinCE device (because it was MADE for playing games), a Rio (a waste of money IMO) will last longer in terms of battery life and can hold more songs, depending on the model you buy. A PalmPilot XX will last so much longer than any WinCE device because it just does. It will not give you the audio and color capabilities (as of now) as the WinCE devices do, but it will do what you need a PDA to do. 4) It's running WinCE - People have been misled up until now that it's okay for an OS to crash or freeze once in awhile. NO! This is NOT okay. Sure there are some that feel that it's okay for THEM, but do your really want to have a PDA that crashes when you need your information the most? WinCE is not the answer to PDA's. Where do you really want to go today, if it's even possible to see it on your PDA?

The bottom line is that reading reviews is a good thing. But you will only find reviews that can be of use if you do a broad search for them. Don't just look for reviews on one device, look at them all. Most people that pay a LOT of money for some cool looking added extras have a lot of good things to say about their purchase because it makes them feel better about it. Look for the support that the product you want to get has, and the software availability. Don't get stuck using one OS or software product. Change might be scary to some, but you may find that it might have been the best thing you ever did. And finally, take a look at the actual product before buying it. I find that pictures of products on the Web are no comparison to actually seeing the product first hand. They will show you all the good angles of the product, but turn it on it's side, and you see something different.

Summary: A Lot of Bang for the Buck
Review: I have a Palm V and got tired of squinting at the screen. While its form-factor is very nice, its total lack of multimedia makes me think it is far too expensive for what you get. On the other hand my HP Jornada has a wealth of multimedia features: MP3 player, image processor etc. I only wish HP would figure a way to add streaming video to the product. All in all the HP+CE combo are hard to beat for standard apps (contacts, expenses etc.) with a lot of room for future expansion.
