Summary: jornada does the job
Review: I was looking for a "micro notebook" like machine. Pda utilities were important. being a "unix" programmer, some type of terminal was also quite important. I have used a few of the "palm size" machines and found them undesirable. (im always poping up the little tap on keyboard, AND,when entering numbers, 99% accuracy (hand writing recognition) doesn't quit cut it). I also was not going to spend over $500, and not get some kind of word processor. Using Hpvx, i have a beautiful, portable, always ready, telnet machine, that does wp, excel, email, and internet... and the color is Great. The battery last. Really last. better then 8 hours, even when using the modem.... Am i Satisfied ??? Im thrilled!. it not tiny, but its always with me, and i have become quite dependent on it.

Summary: what junk
Review: I write under very special conditions. I was using a palm with a keyboard, but I found it not to be powerful enough. A laptop was too heavy, the battery life was miserable, and it took forever to turn on. I found a jornada on Ebay. It is a piece of junk! They get constant memory losses, and it took a week for the screen to fall right off its hinges. I got another and it was wiped with the most crucial information of my life. Like you I read negative revues and gave it the benefit of the doubt(after all I love all electronics), but heed my warning STAND CLEAR.

Summary: I like it!
Review: I've had my Jornada 680 for a few weeks now and already I am wondering how I managed without it. This is my first PDA, although I am familiar with PalmPilots as a number of my co-workers have them. I spend a good portion of my time every month outside of the office. I needed to be able to check my company e-mail and message boards, keep track of my schedule and contacts, use the internet, and e-mail images captured with a digital camera. My Jornada does all of these very well. I don't have the sync problems with Outlook that the PalmPilots do and the color screen is a must have! Would I buy one again? Yes, without hesitation!

Summary: excellent,needed,/business/school,just to keep notes
Review: If a way of payment could happen for the compaq computer of your choice,to purchase a compaq on the spot would be know problem. Maybe low payments twice a month, for one yr. payments to the consumer is important.

Summary: HP CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A DISASTER
Review: If one day you have a problem with an HP product, you can throw it away. I bought a HP 360 LX handheld PC two years ago. It is the old version of the new Jornada. The stylus system went crazy, and I sent it to HP to repair. Well, they want to charge me more than the price of a new one! I have tried to complain to HP. It was a waste of time. They could not care less about customers. I am now about to buy another Palmtop (not HP, of course). I have talked to many electronic stores, and they all say that HP palmtops are not reliable, and break down easily. They also say that HP is very arrogant and never helps its customers. NEVER BUY AN HP PRODUCT!

Summary: Great for getting email when you travel.
Review: If you shlep a heavy laptop on trips just to get your email, do a little bit of web browsing or write some notes, this is for you. You just put the Jornada in your pocket or briefcase and attach the phone cable to its handy built in modem. The battery lasts so long (sometimes 8 hours) that you can travel for several days without even taking the power adapter. The whole system weighs only about 1 lb. The keyboard is OK but might be problematic if you have fat fingers.

Although you can download Word or PowerPoint documents from your desktop and carry them around, the graphics are not good enough for technical presentations. However if you use mainly plain text and your PowerPoint presentations are mainly big pie charts and so on, this is another great feature. I found out that HP sells a VGA adapter card for the Jornada. This little plug in card lets you download your MS PowerPoint presentation into the little travel computer and then output it to a VGA monitor or projector with graphics up to 768x1024. So not only can I carry the Jornada on trips to get my email, but I can also download my presentation (up to about 16 MB) and output it to the client's projector or monitor. Since the presentation comes from the computer's memory, it is very fast. Great!

Summary: Don't try this at home
Review: If you think you are going to be able to use the Jornada to pick up email from your company server while out of the office, think again. Although the manual says you can set it up to do this, the techs at HP don't have a clue about how to make it work. After paying the best technical guy I know for a full day's time, he also couldn't make it work. If you remember to leave your desktop computer on, you can pick up email in the Active Sync mode. But if you forget, you're out of luck. This seeems to be due to the fact that Windows CE, like many Microsoft products, just has too many bugs. The Jornada is NOT ready for prime time. Save your money and get a ligthweight laptop that runs Windows 95 if you want to be in touch while on the road.

Summary: This thing is HOT!
Review: If you're looking for something portible to be functional with, this is it. Aside from a dead-on integration into Outlook, you can surf the web and have full email and fax capabilties. While you might be able to do this on some other CE devices, we found this was the only one that offered a pocket version of Office. Yea, its not full of much of the advanced formating features in Word, and Excel doesn't do charts, but, hey, it sure beats lugging full sized notebook around, and accomplishes about 85% of what non-notebook owners need. I am very happy my wife introduced me to this when I was about to buy a E105 (which doesn't come with a modem). Although the keyboard is small, it beats a stylus. Ths really is a handheld pc. (And note, there is a download form HP that takes it up to 65K color from the 256 quoted.)
